About our home

Our house is in a stunning position, right on the edge of Lake Taupo - NZ's biggest freshwater lake, right in the centre of the North Island. It has crystal clear water and loads of trout - and our garden literally goes down to the water. It's peacefully set amongst mature trees with stunning views across the lake. A kayak is there for your use. We love this place to pieces, it is our holiday home getaway from city life and we love to sit and stare across the lake. There is carpet throughout and a view from almost every room. We are happy to offer non simultaneous exchanges, as we also have a harbourside house in Auckland, NZ's biggest city, to offer. It's on this website too - at #4422. It also has beautiful views, and direct access to the water's edge with a path down through the garden.

More about us

We are Henry and Trish, in our 40's, and our 10 year old daughter Ruby. We have had eight very successful exchanges in Uk and France, and we would treat your home with the utmost respect. We enjoy hiking, birdwatching, boating and cycling, and share a passionate amateur interest in English history and architecture. Ruby's main passion at the moment is violin. We prefer home exchanging to staying in hotels or hostels because we enjoy feeling "a part" of the local community. Plus, we like sharing our beautiful lakeside holiday home with overseas visitors to New Zealand! We are totally flexible on when you come to our house at Lake Taupo. We are seeking a non-simultaneous week or two anywhere near the coast in Britain, Scotland, Italy or France. Longer term, we are also seeking an exchange near Bakewell, Derbyshire, from March 2010 for several months. This can be simultaneous or not, depending on what suits you!

Where is it?

Taupo town is vibrant, and only two hours drive to the Mt Ruapehu skifields. We are surrounded by wonderful outdoor experiences. If bungi jumping appeals to you, there's a bungi site where you can take a dive 50 metres above the Waikato River. There's an international golf couse at Wairakei and a new one at nearby Kinloch, half an hour away. It's also close to the famous geysers of Rotorua - within an hour's drive. Taupo has an abundance of parks and walkways, in fact there's a wonderful walkway from the lake along the Waikato River to the famous Huka Falls, and you can jump into the river along the way, even in the middle of winter, because there's a natural hot spring where anyone is welcome to soak for a while. As for the lake itself, well, if you know anything about trout you will know that Taupo is one of the great lakes of the world for trout fishing. And the water is stunningly clear.
