About our home

The 'Whoppers only Story Telling Club' (2007), where fishing lies are the norm and truth is not tolerated, is themed and influenced by the quintessential iconic NZ black Bach - (a uniquely NZ word meaning weekend beach cottage). Our Lockwood Bach (locked together not nailed) nestles discreetly in a reserve directly on the Tauranga Harbour which looks to the entrance to the Tauranga Harbour, Matakana Island and Mauao. Comfort is essential to us so our Bach is well appointed and comprises a roomy kitchen, open lounge and dining room. We have three double bedrooms (all with sea views and double wardrobes, one with TV). A design studio also functions as a large dressing room/study space and we have wireless internet. We love reading so there is a library of great reads. Bathroom facilities include a separate shower, loo and separate bathroom with a bath. We have an Infinity gas hot water system which provides high pressure, endless hot water and a heated towel rail. There is also an outside hot shower to rinse yourself off after a swim in the sea. Air conditioning will keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. A remotely controlled double internal garage houses our two vehicles. The laundry (located in the garage) has a large washing machine and dryer. Bicycles are available to our guests. We have outside dinning with braziers X 2 and a BBQ. This allows guests to end the day participating in a truly NZ pastime. Kiwis love to uncover their BBQs in the evening and throw the sausages and meat onto the grill. Men are often found standing around the BBQ (for some this is the only time they cook!) with a beer in hand.
We are a 45 minute drive to the Hobbiton movie set in Matamata and we are one hour from Rotorua NZ's thermal wonderland . A cleaner can be arranged for you and friends and family would be happy to help you find your way around.

More about us

  1. Kia Ora from the sunny Bay of Plenty in Aotearoa (NZ). Owen and I are in our 60's and proud of our beautiful country and the mighty NZ All Blacks. We have three children. Two sons and a daughter. We are both passionate about our family and work and also love to travel and appreciate other cultures. Owen practices law in Tauranga and Karen runs a Design and Personal Styling business . We would love to have like minded people experience the wonderful uncompromising lifestyle we have created. We have had a long term vision of "living the dream" and have put a great deal of effort into presenting our beach 'Bach' home as a contemporary version of the quintessentially iconic kiwi Bach. Our unique pacific location and home offer a diverse and interesting cultural and tourist destination. We would like to exchange information and ideas by email so we are able to facilitate a fantastic exchange. We would treat your home as if it were our own, with respect and care. Come visit Aotearoa, 'The Land of the Long White Cloud'.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our 'Bach' is nestled on a Reserve in Matua and is ten minutes from the Tauranga CBD in the beautiful coastal strip called the Bay of Plenty (N.I) New Zealand. Tauranga is a harbour city flanked by the Kaimai ranges and the Pacific Ocean and is known as the lifestyle capital of NZ, with its pristine ocean beaches, protected harbour and temperate subtropical climate. Swimming in hot saltwater or thermal pools, boating, surfing, kite surfing, whitewater rafting, hunting and fishing (sea and fresh water), golfing and horse racing are popular activities in this area. The pacific ocean and nearby islands are a recreational fishing paradise with snapper, tarakihi, gurnard, hapuka, crayfish and billfish common catches. It is easy to understand why this is New Zealand's fastest growing city and the most popular holiday playground for New Zealanders. Tauranga has a busy airport with links to all major New Zealand cities and it is just over a two hour drive to Auckland. Kayak, swim and kite surf on the protected Tauranga Harbour directly from the front lawn of this property. If walking is for you then try walking the Matua peninsula at low tide and take in the Saltmarsh a 21 hectare wetland protected for its ecological value. Stroll to the Tauranga Marina for a coffee or take a right turn and head to Cherrywood to 'The Neighbourhood’ for a yummy lunch or dinner. Mauao's base track is a comfortable 45 minute stroll or an ideal . Wonder down to the beach in the evening to walk off your BBQ. Our local Matua and Cherrywood shopping centres provide a very comprehensive infrastructure. For ease of travel, buses go from our street at all times of the day. Tauranga and Mount Maunganui boast wonderful shopping for those looking for some serious retail therapy. If you like to snow ski we are within driving distance to Whakapapa and Turoa snow fields.
