About our home

Our home is located in rural Te Puke in the sunny Bay of Plenty. Even though we live rural we have plenty of attractions and activities nearby. Our house is very homely and has top class views all around from Maketu to White Island Volcano to Whakatane. Our total land area is 2 acres and we are surrounded by rural properties so you will wake up by the sounds of the birds singing and bees humming.

In the home are a living room, open plan kitchen and dining area, master bedroom with ensuite, 1 bedroom with single bed and 1 bedroom with a double bed. There are 3 toilets in the house and a laundry with washing machine and dryer. We also have a games room with TV and Xbox and sofa bed which can sleep 2 people if needed. Our downstairs bathroom has a spa bath (2 adults can fit in) and outside is a spa/whirlpool with seats for 3 people. We don't have any pets currently but we are pet friendly and would welcome a pet into our home, provided they are potty trained ;)

To entertain the children we have big paddocks to play with a quad bike, dune buggy, lots of boardgames, 1 Nintendo Wii and 2 rooms have Xbox with plenty of games. The top of our hill gives amazing 360 degree views all around and is a really lovely spot to have a family picnick!

More about us

  1. We are a family of four with two teenagers aged 16 and 17. We are originally from Belgium and have made the move to New Zealand 9 years ago.
Professionally we are a Quality Systems manager and a Certification Coordinator for a large New Zealand Natural Health Company while our 2 boys are studying at High School. We have done an unofficial (one-way) home-exchange before and had such a great experience we decided to list our home on this website. We understand that your home is personal and precious and promise to treat your home with respect and as if it was our own.

Since we have school aged children we are not very flexible with dates as we have to travel during school holidays. We would love to consider every exchange request by comparing the travel expenses with the length of stay. Please note that we will be travelling with teenagers so very remote places are not suitable for us as long as our children accompany us. It would be great if the exchange location could have entertainment for teenagers nearby (max 2 hour drive) so all members of our family can enjoy a great holiday.

At the moment we are planning to visit our family in Belgium next Christmas so we are very keen to consider any exchanges to France, Belgium, London or North Brabant in the Netherlands.

December through to March are the warmest months in New Zealand (Average annual sunshine hours: 2,260, day temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees C). June to end August are our winter months. Christmas Day is traditionally celebrated with a barbeque on the beach here in New Zealand!

Where is it?

Te Puke is the Kiwifruit capital of the world and in the middle between the Western and Eastern Bay of Plenty. We have chosen to live in Te Puke because of its central location to all sorts of attractions and activities nearby and on the North Island. At your doorstep are a multitude of activities, you are 20 minutes away from the beach and 10 minutes from the nearest bush walk. Surfing, beach, boating, fishing, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, shopping mall, tramping, etc... You are 25 minutes drive away from Mount Maunganui, 30 minutes from Tauranga, 50 minutes from Rotorua, 2.5 hours from the famous Tongariro crossing. A bit further away are Auckland (3 hours), Napier and Hastings (4 hours), Wellington (6.5 hours).
