Our very confortable and well equiped two double bedroom home is nestled on a tree clad hillside on nearly an acre of land in the heart of Thames township. Beautiful sunset views over the town to the firth of Thames are a feature of the property. The bedrooms and main bathroom are upstairs with the open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge on the ground floor, leading out to a courtyard and patio areas for secluded dining and easy outdoor living. There is a second toilet and separate shower downstairs, plus a laundry and a study which has internet connections.
Thames is an historic gold mining town with guided tours through the old mine open to the public on most week-ends. The town is the "gateway" to the beautiful and largely unspoiled Coromandel Penninsula. It is approximately 1.5 hours drive from Auckland and Auckland airport and less than an hour from Hamilton airport, and an easy 2 hours from Tauranga and the thermal wonders of Rotorua. There are superb beaches along both sides of the Coramandel peninsular where fishing, snorkeling, swimming as well as golf are very popular pastimes. Thames township has a wide variety of shops, cafes and restaurants, many catering for international visitors as well as the local community. If you like to go walking, or hiking/tramping/climbing, bring your boots and put on plenty of sun barrier cream to explore the the native bush area of the Kaueranga Valley only 10 minutes drive away. This lovely National Park offers everything from a gentle stroll to a challenging climb.
"TG and Me" are fit and active, determined to live every moment of our retirement every day, in case it may not be possible later on. We are quiet people, community minded, very interested in the natural world and conservation. We enjoy talking with like minded people and sharing the odd G & T or a bottle of wine. We have a love of just about all types of music and theatre and regularly perform with a 24 strong group for paying audiences. TG plays golf and is interested in all sports, I am more inclined to be arty. Just the two of us will be travelling.
My Dad lives on the Leverstock Green side of Hemel Hempstead and is 90 years young next January 2008. We also have a sister and her family in Oxford as well as a son living in Europe and another visiting him around that time.
