About our home

We are Lee and Mark and we love our house. It is situated in the park like surroundings of Ngarimu Bay. It is just 5 minutes walk to the beach. Sit on the extensive desks and enjoy the calls and flights of our native birds. Dine at the outdoor table - there is a barbecue adjacent. Walk into the garden and pick organic vegetables, herbs and fruit from the trees. The house has 2 bedrooms both with sea views, the master bedroom has a super king sized bed and a large ensuite. The second bedroom has a double bed and its own separate bathroom and toilet. A couch in the lounge converts to a foldout bed. There is an office with fast wireless internet. There is undercover parking for 2 vehicles.
The two lounge areas each have French doors opening onto the deck. Both have views of the sea and mature trees There is a dining area with similar lovely views. In winter a wood-burning stove heats the entire house. Lee uses the second lounge as a workroom for felting and spinning. There are signs of Lee's creativity throughout the house.

More about us

  1. We are retired and there are 3 of us travelling together - Lee (ex technical writer), Mark (ex electronics engineer) and our friend Jackie (ex specialist teacher). We would prefer a non-simultaneous swap as we would like to travel in the Northern Hemisphere summer. Lee and Mark have a bus and when you come to stay in our home we would go travelling in the bus. We are looking for one to four week exchanges in England, Ireland or Spain. We have travelled together previously and house sat in England. We have excellent references and will take very good care of your home. We would like to travel in 2014 around the May June July August period.

Neighbourhood

Ngarimu Bay is a small bay with about 50 houses, 10 minutes from the historic mining town of Thames on the west coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. The peninsula is a top tourist attraction in New Zealand. Renowned for its beauty, beaches, hills, fishing, artists and craftspeople, there is much for the visitor to do. If you like walking there are many tracks for all levels of fitness in our enchanting rainforests. The Pinnacles walk and the Crosbie's Clearing walk both have modern huts to stay in overnight. You can even walk around the very top of the peninsula. A forty minute drive takes you to Coromandel to Driving Creek Railway and much more. On the east coast there are surf beaches.
The Hauraki Rail Trail has just opened and offers biking and walking trails from Thames to Paeroa, Te Aroha and Karangahake. If you are interested in tracing relations who came to the Coromandel, The Treasury is a repository of records and photos of Hauraki and Coromandel. On Saturdays Thames has a market featuring home grown produce, plants, crafts, and food. Across the firth are the Miranda Hot Pools and for sheer indulgence The Lost Spring at Whitianga is a special treat. You can snorkel or kayak in the marine park at Cathedral Cove and of course swim at Ngarimu Bay. Other activities are fishing charters, Harley Davidson rides, check out http://www.thecoromandel.com

Thames is about one and a half hours by car from Auckland and Hamilton
You do need a vehicle and we are happy to exchange our car as well as home
