About our home

The Shak is a comfortable place to return to after a day out. I live by the premise that when you are on holiday you are out and about all day and basically need somewhere to cook good food and sleep!. With this in mind the Shak is a modest dwelling with a good kitchen . It has tempura memory foam topper on the double bed. The two single beds are built into the lounge and are high quality. The bifold opens out onto a lovely deck. It lets the sun in winter and is shaded by an old fashionedmagnolia in summer. Many a happy drink has been sunk catching the last of the sun after a day on the mountain. The Shak has a lovely fireplace and is easy to keep warm. It is opposite a huge park. Just walk through the alleyway at the end of the drive. Plenty of room to run a dog or two! It is also close ( 2 min drive) to the world famous Tongariro River, a trout fishing paradise and to Southern Lake Taupo . The Tokaanu boat ramps is 5mins away. Swimming spots on the lake abound and are 10 - 30 minute drives depending on your choice. Tokaanu hot pools are just up the road. The central location is a great spot to explore from. Taupo is a 45 minutr drive. This is a deliberately small home. Built in 2014 it is cosy and comfortable. Suit couples and up to 2 children. Your canine friend is welcome but there are no fences ..... so they need to be a good inside dog and supervised when out and about.

More about us

  1. Single. Often travel with my 2 adult nieces who are also snow hounds. Or beach bunnies depending on the season!

  2. I’m a nurse. The kids are both employed in the tourist trade. One is first mate on a charter cruise to the Whitsundays and the ither is currently working her way through Canada and the USA

  3. I love comfort and warmth. Think heavy drapes, petsian rugs, fireplace. In summer the bifolds open up to double the living area with wonderful indoor outdoor flow.
