About our home

My holiday home ( known in New Zealand as a bach) was completely renovated 4 years ago to a high standard. The homes’ modest exterior hides a beautiful interior. There is a sitting/kitchen/dining space and a double set of ranch sliders from the sitting room onto the deck with stunning views over Waikawa and the Queen Charlotte Sound. We call the view ‘the big sky’. The furniture is high end and the walls are covered in art, mirrors and family memories. There is a flat screen tv, CD player, cd’s, loads of books, a gas fired log fire and beautiful hand made lamps to illuminate your evening. WiFi is available to help plan your day. There are two double bedrooms with fitted wardrobes, the beds are comfortable- one room has a double the other a queen. The double room has a wall mounted tv with numerous channels but not Sky. The bathroom is spacious and completely tiled in marble. There is a walk in shower, hand wash stand with heated mirror, electric towel rail, loo and underfloor heating. The kitchen is fitted and fully equipped plus it has a fridge/freezer, gas hob, electric oven and extractor, dishwasher and larder. The washing machine is in the garage and the drying line in the garden. There are two outside sitting areas, the deck - great views but hot in summer and a private sheltered area next to the car port. Lovely and cool in summer, Both areas have tables and chairs. There is also a good quality portable gas bbq and a sun umbrella. Off road parking accommodates two cars, one in a car port and one hard standing . It is a 5 minute drive into Picton and to the ferry. 10 minute walk to Waikawa marina and the ‘Jolly Roger’ pub.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Waikawa and Picton are the gateway to both the North and South Island of NZ. The perfect central point for touring either or both islands. The Marlborough Sounds are breathtakingly beautiful and there are many places to explore both by boat, car and on foot. Blenheim is 24 kilometers from Picton and should not be missed if you love wines and vineyards some of which have restaurants attached. The ferry journey from Picton across the Cook Straits to Wellington is a once in a lifetime experience- one of the great journey’s in the world. In addition the journey by car, bus or train to Christchurch on the Eastern seaboard is beautiful. Whale watch and eat fresh crayfish at the half way point in Kaikoura. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Nelson which is a two hour drive from Picton along the Queen Charlotte coastal road or go further afield to Golden Bay and the pretty township of Takaka. Picton itself is an attractive small town known for its remarkable history founded on whaling, visit the museum to find out more or have a coffee at Le cafe and admire the stunning view from the foreshore and marina into The Sounds. The Edwin Fox maritime museum is definitely worth a visit or watch a movie at the mini theatre in the aquarium . Want to stay close to home then take a 10 minute walk to Waikawa Marina, watch day boats being launched, (sometimes very entertaining) buy a coffee at the coffee cart or order blue cod and chips at the ‘Jolly Roger’ pub . A 20 minute stroll takes you to Waikawa Bay where you can swim and sunbathe.
