Our house at Lake Wanaka is spacious and light with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is a perfect location for exploring Queenstown and beyond. The master bedroom has a king bed, an ensuite and walk in robe. Bedroom 2 has a king/split twin. Bedroom 3 has a double and a king single with a trundler underneath and bedroom 4 is a king. The kitchen, dining, living is open plan with large French doors leading to a sunny courtyard. All modern appliances. There is a separate large family bathroom, separate toilet and laundry. The house is in a lovely quiet subdivision and is an easy stroll to the Lake and township. It is our holiday home and we also rent it out, so is set up with all you would need for a great relaxing stay. There are 4 mountainbikes and 2 kayaks with lifejackets. We also have a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house in Sumner, Christchurch which is one house back from the beach. The kitchen, living, master bedroom and outdoor deck are on the upper floor and all have views of the ocean. The Sumner, Christchurch home will be available for exchange from 20th December to 10th January when we will be in Wanaka ourselves. Car is negotiable.

More about us

  1. We are a couple (Daz and Min) in our early 50's with two grown up sons. We based ourselves in the UK for 3 years when we were in our 20's and travelled through Europe as backpackers. We would like to return and stay in Europe for about 4-5 months from May through September 2014 staying for 1 to 2 weeks in various regions. Tuscany, Rome, Nice, Loire Valley, Bordeaux and the UK. We may have another couple join us for part of our trip.
We love spending time in our holiday home in Wanaka which is 5 hours drive from our beachside home in Christchurch.
We prefer non simultaneous exchange and our Wanaka house is available from December 2013 - May 2014 except from 20th December - January when we will be staying there ourselves. Our Christchurch house is available for exchange for negotiated dates. Please feel free to contact us if you want to discuss further.

Where is it?

Ideally situated for exploring the lower South Island. Wanaka is a picturesque small town on the banks of Lake Wanaka and is a popular destination in both winter and summer. It is set in a very peaceful location with hiking, biking and walking near the lake but also caters for the more adventurous traveller with waterskiing, kayaking, boating and fishing in the summer and snow skiing in the winter. Queenstown is 45 minutes drive away and a day trip can take you to many beautiful locations including Arrowtown, Te Anau, Milford Sound, Dunedin, Lake Tekapo, Aoraki/Mt, Cook, Twizel, Omarama and through the Haast Pass to the West Coast to view the Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers. A good round trip is to fly into Christchurch and make your way down through the centre stopping at Mt Cook for the night and sightseeing on your way through. Base yourself in Wanaka while you discover Queenstown, Milford Sound and the surrounding area, then travel back through Haast Pass up via the Westcoast, through Arthur's Pass back to Christchurch. Or you can travel further up the Westcoast through to the Lewis Pass and spend time in the beautiful Abel Tasman park area at the top of the South Island. The history of the Central Otago region centred on gold mining and large farm stations. Nowadays farming is still the backbone but the region is gaining a reputation for outstanding wine particularly pinot noir. We rent the house out for the ski season from June through October and stay there ourselves from 20th December to end of January so the house would not be available for exchange for those dates. Go to for more information about the area.
Christchurch is the perfect spot for day trips to explore places like Akaroa, Hanmer (natural hot springs)Whale watching in Kaikoura and the Trans Alpine train to the Westcoast through spectacular native bush.
