Nestled in native bush in a pleasant, quiet neighbourhood of Wellington, only 10 to 15 minutes from the CBD by car or train, and 20 minutes from the beach. Train station and supermarket are a 7-minute walk away.
This three bedroom 1960's wooden family home has an open plan living room, with windows on three sides, which opens to a stunning sun-deck (with trampoline).
There's a master bedroom with queen bed, second bedroom with queen bed and third bedroom with bunk beds. A sofa-bed in the living room can take two more guests if needed. The house has central heating/AC and also features a wood fire in the living room.
A terraced garden at the rear captures the evening sun. Parking space for two cars including internal garage.
This house is very child-friendly. There are DVDs, toys and books for kids from babies to 10 years old. Apart from the modern trampoline, there is a school playground and playing field right across the road. A hike up the hill takes you to a scenic walking track overlooking Wellington.
Kate and Jeet are both immigrants to New Zealand (from Australia and Tanzania). We each fell in love with Wellington. We work in government and in consulting for the energy sector. Our three children (twins aged 10 and a four-year-old) keep us busy with dancing, football and Hindi lessons. We make time for our interests in stand-up comedy (Jeet) and painting (Kate).
We love living within 10 minutes of the cosmopolitan CBD, yet surrounded by tree ferns and scenic walks. The valley below our house is a native bush reserve. A clear creek runs through the reserve, with trails where you can walk or jog under the trees. There are free public barbecues on the lawns.
Local attractions include the Zealandia native bird and reptile sanctuary, Te Papa National Museum, craft and farmers' markets on the waterfront and a thriving arts scene. You could tour Weta Workshop (the studio responsible for the Lord of the Rings and other famous movies) or visit our beaches and cafes.
