About our home

Our beautiful house is newly renovated and maintained to a very high standard. It has excellent 'indoor/outdoor flow' with a large deck off the open plan kitchen/dining/living room. There is a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and a sunroom, another bedroom upstairs and another bathroom. The other two rooms are used as offices, but one could double as a bedroom if needed. Downstairs is a self-contained one bedroom flat (39m2) with an open plan kitchen/living/dining area and it's own outdoor access. All the bedrooms have queen sized beds and there is also a double sofa bed downstairs.
We don't have children or pets. We are happy to host children as long as they look after everything, although some things such as the woodburner are not 'child-friendly' - ie there is no fireguard, so it may not be suitable for very young children. Unfortunately we can't host pets unless they stay outside.
There is a lovely garden, mostly devoted to vegetable growing and you are welcome to harvest if you are here at the right time.
The house is detached and very quiet. because we live on the hill, we have beautiful views and are not really overlooked by neighbours.
We mostly cycle around and there are bikes you can use while you are staying.
There isn't a TV (way too much to do in Wellington to spend time watching TV), but we do have high speed internet and you can get many things 'on demand'.
The house is at the end of the street and up a zigzag path which is quite steep. There is also a flight of stairs, so it is no good for those with severe mobility problems.
We park our car on the street and you are welcome to borrow it while you are here.

More about us

  1. I am a General Physician and work at the local hospital. My partner, Quentin is an Educational Psychologist and semi-professional Latin Dancer. We love to travel and are experienced exchangers. We are very clean and tidy and will look after any home to our own high standards. We are very responsible and good at sorting out any problems without drama.
We don't have pets, but we are happy to look after yours while we are staying in your house. I am a keen walker/runner and love taking dogs for a long walk.
We can offer non-simultaneous exchange to 2-4 people as they can stay in the downstairs flat while we are here. Unfortunately we can't usually swap at short notice as my rota requires us to make holiday plans at least a year in advance, but we are open to any offer....

Where is it?

We live in the central suburb of Newtown. It is a 10 min walk to a myriad of coffee shops, restaurants, supermarket, ethnic food shops etc. Walk for another 30 mins and you'll be in the CBD. Alternatively you can borrow our bikes or catch the bus which runs every 10 mins.
Our street is a cul-de-sac and we know all our neighbours. They are very friendly and caring and will look out for you while you are here.
Wellington is a mountainous city with 200 mountains within walking distance. They are all covered in fantastic bush and trails for walking, running and mountain biking.
It also boasts a beautiful harbour where you can surf, dive, swim, paddle-board etc. If you don't fancy cold-ish water, it is great to just walk around it and soak up the rugged south coast or the city beach.
Wellington is the capital of New Zealand, so although it is small (only 100,000 in the city peninsula), it has a vibrant arts and cultural scene as well as great restaurants, cinemas, gyms, museums etc.
Wellington is very multi-cultural with local Māori, European New Zealanders, other Pacific Islanders, South-East Asians and many other immigrants living together. Newtown is a particularly diverse suburb which makes it one of the most interesting.
