About our home
These two cottages are uniquely positioned on a large tree clad section on the sand spit between the ocean beach and the harbour.
There are no sea views but they have the advantage of privacy and protection from the wind
The main cottage sleeps a maximun of four people. It has one bedroom ,with a double bed ,which opens onto the back porch, the afternoon sun and BBQ area .
There are two single beds in the living area.
A rollaway bed is available though this is more suitable for a child.
The kitchen is well serviced. The living area is light and airy and opens onto a deck beneath the old pohutukawa tree in the front garden.
"The Hobbit House" is tucked away at the rear of the property. This is a tiny but charming studio dwelling with a double bed in the living room and separate bathroom and kitchen.
Both cottages are very simple dwellings but have been decorated with warmth and creativity thus retaining the "traditional bach" atmosphere but ensuring they are fresh and clean.

Where is it?
Neighbourhood
Ohiwa is a relatively isolated rural area on the east coast of the North Island
It is part of the continuim of classic white surf beaches that extend from Mount Maunganui to Opotiki. It is 5 hours drive from Auckland and 90 minutes from the lesser cities of Rotorua and Tauranga.
The closest small town is 15 km away and so a car is necessary
Deep sea fishing trips and expeditions to the volcanic White Island gannet sanctuary can be arranged from Whakatane which is a 30 minute drive away
The community of Ohiwa is small and mostly comprises of holiday homes confined to the harbour edge.
Just 50 metres from the cottages is the sheltered Ohiwa harbour, renowned for its mangroves, shellfish, flounder and sunsets.
50 metres in the other direction is the white sand of the surf beach which is ideal for walking ,swimming or fishing
