About our home

When we visited Nicaragua we liked it so much we decided to build a home here. Our home is located in a gated community about 5 k north of the town of San Juan del Sur. We are away from the noise of town yet close to the amenities if we want them. We have high speed internet. World class beaches are close by to the north and south. One side of the home has a bedroom, ensuite bathroom, indoor living space and kitchen. Separated by an outdoor covered breezeway, the other side has a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and washing machine. The large porch looks west on to Nacascolo Bay Underneath the porch is a "casita". ( a little bachelor apartment with a hotplate, fridge, bathroom. ) as well as a storage area. New in 2018 is a delightful 4 foot deep swimming pool and a shady nook with a Morocaan-style fountain. Great place to sit in the shade in the afternoon or under the stars at night.

Where is it?

Our home called Casa Pluma Azul , (casa blue feather... for the national bird ) is in the development called El Encanto del Sur. Just sitting on the front porch one can see a variety of birds from oropendolas, mot mots, parrots, orioles. etc For folks who like to exercise, there are hills in the development to get/keep you in shape. The beaches to to the north, Madaras, Majagual, Marsella are just 4 k to the north. We lived here without a car, but having your own transportation would be a plus. ( local rental options are less expensive than the big companies). We have a truck now and can help you out with transportation. The community of expats here are a friendly bunch. We have a gardener who will keep up the outside work and cleaning can be arranged as well. We designed the house with high ceilings, fans and windows to allow for good airflow. Horseback riding, fishing, whale and turtle watching, happy hour, great restaurants, shopping for locally made crafts, music, art and culture ... these are all very close by. We love the combination of a very peaceful environment and the ability to go to the action in town for a change of pace.
