About our home

We have made plans for the spring, summer and autumn of 2020 and will not be able to make any exchanges during this period. Earliest possible is as of November 2020.

Our modern villa is situated on a little cliff with unhindered view of the fjord (Drammensfjorden). Based on an old villa from 1939, it has been fully renovated in 2017. It is a large house (217m2) over 3 stories with 4 bedrooms (all double beds) and three baths w/showers. It has a large open plan kitchen, dining area and living room area with a nice gas oven in the middle for those cold days. All floors throughout the house are heated. The master bedroom features a double bed (180x200cm) and access to a balcony with the morning sun. The guest room has a 150x200 double bed and the both the kids' rooms have a pull-out bed 80x200 (doubles to 160x200). Connected to the backside of the house is a large raised patio with a view of the fjord. It is equipped with bbq, sitting groups and a trampoline (during summer). This patio enjoys a lot of afternoon and evening sun during spring, summer and autumn.
The access to the house is by a long set of concrete stairs (46 steps). During winter it can be heated to melt the ice (snow needs be shoveled).
The house is a 20 minute walk from the beautiful town center (Bragernes) of Drammen with the river running through it in the middle. Only 5-10 minutes walk from the house you enter a network of footpaths and bike roads (ski trails during winter).
The house is not air-conditioned but has waterborne floor-heating which when turned down in summer effectively cools the floors a little. All rooms are also ventilated with heat-recycling which contributes to maintain a cool indoor climate. Furthermore, all windows have outside sunscreens which are remote-controlled and stops the sun from heating the house during the summer.

More about us

  1. We are a family of 4, Else and Kjartan and with two boys. Magnus is 5 and Sigurd is 7 years old. We also have a dog (Golden Retriever - 4 months old (jan.2020)) and a cat. The cat has access to the house at all times through a cat flap, and it is necessary that this is also OK for any who we swap with (and preferably feed him every 2-3 days). Because of the dog, we would prefer to bring him (within Europe) or find a place for him during the exchange.

  2. Else is a psychiatrist and Kjartan is an IT-systems architect and developer.

  3. We like to travel and see new places. Both Else and Kjartan has lived abroad for a number of years before the children. Our travels are unfortunately dependant on our dog and cat being taken care of and of school holidays in Norway (generally summer-vacation is between end of June until mid August-ish.
We are very fond of our house and like to keep it in good condition and as tidy as possible in a hectic family life.
We will treat your house with the same respect as ours.

Neighbourhood

Our house is in a quiet neighbourhood of town villas. Only a short walk down (10 min) to the city center of Drammen which has also been renovated over the last two decades and become a city well worth a visit with its beautiful river side promenade. For recreation it is only a 5 min walk to the beginning of the trails into the forrests surrounding Drammen. The trails offer great walks with viewpoints and bicycle trails (skiing during winter) for miles.
Drammen is only 30 minutes west of Oslo and the trains run frequently from city center to city center.
