About our home

Finca Luz is a working 10 acre organic coffee, citrus and medicinal plant farm, located 6 kms (10 minutes driving) from the town of Boquete, in the central highland mountains of Panamá. From the front of the house, you can see the Pacific ocean and the nearby towering Volcan Baru. The house was custom reconstructed in 2006 from an old migrant worker barracks -- handcrafted now with tile floors, bathrooms up and downstairs--one with tub, other with shower, cozy living area, spacious master bedroom with queen bed, and efficient, well-outfitted kitchen.
A wide covered terrace runs the length of the house and provides year round outdoor living. Temperatures range from 68 to 80 F degrees, year round. The green, or rainy season, is July through mid-November -- most mornings are clear and sunny, with thunderstorms or rain in the afternoons. December through May is the dry season, with breezes, lots of sunshine -- but with temperatures that never need air conditioning. Beautifully landscaped, the grounds have well-maintained walking trails, forested, meadow and wetland areas, all in a private park setting.

An attached, newly constructed efficiency loft apartment is also available.

Other: includes maid and gardener service, vehicle, high speed internet, two cats, five fat hens (fresh eggs!) and Charlie the Dog

Laundry service available in town for very reasonable rates.

Our home is unique in a natural setting of unparalleled beauty. Comfortable, non-pretentious, easy.

More about us

  1. We are Dianne and Elizabeth, partners in life and business, and long time residents of Panamá. We operate Finca Luz, growing organic coffee and medicinal plants for sale locally and for export under the name Cloud Forest Botanicals. We also run an architectural design and custom furniture/design business,The Zapadora. We have written and published 5 books -- the most popular of which is The Boquete (Not for Tourists) Handbook. In our former lives we were, respectively, an attorney and a psychologist.

Busy women! That's why we need, from time to time, to have a holiday away! We love to travel and have a long list of places still to visit.

Where is it?

Boquete, Panamá is a top tourist and retirement destination for people from the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. Easy to get to by way of the international airport in Panamá City. Population of the town is roughly 5,000, though more during peak seasons and fiesta times. The comfortable year round temperatures, extraordinary flowers and trees, and bird life have earned it the title: Land of Eternal Spring.

The primary language is Spanish, but most restaurants, service providers, etc. speak English, as well. All tour operators are multilingual. The currency is the US dollar. Electrical current is standard 110 volt.

Things to do: hike in the cloud forest, tour a coffee farm and learn why Boquete coffee is the best in the world, visit a Pacific beach (with or without surfing), raft a world-class white water river , tour an orchid farm, climb almost 12,000 foot Volcan Baru (go with a guide!), zipline through the jungle canopy, go bird watching, visit a honey farm with butterfly house, watch a parade in town during the holidays, visit the Tuesday Morning Farmer and Craft Market, chill out on the Finca Luz terrace.

The people of Boquete--both locals and extranjeros -- are friendly, helpful and eager to share our wonderful little bit of Paradise with visitors.
