About our home

Our home could not be called "ritzy", but it is cozy and comfortable. It is very basic Panamanian concrete block and tile construction with decorative tile throughout. The master bedroom has two twin beds. There are 2 full size futons in the living room and in the studio/guest bedroom, and a treadmill and pulley type weight machine to keep you in shape during your visit. There are 2 TVs connected to Cable with all the movie channels. We have several hundred DVD movies to enjoy, and lots of CDs. We have countless bookcases full of great novels and other reading material. There is a 60 foot covered terrace with a hammock, and a great mountain view! We are located 1/2 block off the main highway which runs from the big city of David (3rd largest city in Panama) to Boquete, a 25 mile drive. You can drive our Ford Explorer, or catch a cab for 75 cents into town. Panama is much safer than Costa Rica or anywhere we have lived in the U.S.

We are Cat worshipers...we have adopted 4 homeless kitties who showed up at our door with their bags after hearing of the Gringos with a soft heart for loving felines. We will swap affection and loving care with your kitties, if you desire.

We would consider all locations in CT, but prefer one close to a VA facility or possibly close to Darien, where my daughter and her husband reside.

More about us

  1. We are retired Nashville songwriters amd social workers. Our tunes have been recorded by Bobby Bare, Mel McDaniel, Tanya Tucker, Charlie Louvin, Shel Silverstein, Bob Gibson, Canada's Goode Brothers, and include Mickey Gilley's top 10 CBS single "I'm the One Mama Warned You About" and Lorrie Morgan's No.1 RCA single "Out of Your Shoes". We have strong ties to the folk music of the 60s. We are 68 and 72 years old, and still perform from time to time for the folks here in Boquete's 100 seat theatre. We have a very charming maid, Carmen, who puts in a half day each Saturday, around 10A-2PM. She will be prepaid for Saturday cleaning during your stay.

Where is it?

Boquete, located in the mountains of Panama near the border of Costa Rica, is a town of pristine beauty and is the most popular expat retirement community in Panama. AARP Magazine lists Boquete as number 2 in the top 10 places in the world to retire. Temperature year round is always in the 65-75 degree range, as the town is located at about 3500 feet at the base of the highest mountain in Panama, the extinct volcano, Volcan Baru. Of the 3,500 inhabitants, approximately 1,000 are expats from the U.S., Canada, and Europe. There is a meeting every Tuesday morning of the expat community for information sharing and networking. There is an abundance of other activities for folks here, including a very impressive theatre which regularly puts on plays and concerts. There are numerous great restaurants and cocktail lounges with frequent live music. A rushing river, the Rio Caldera, runs through the center of town. There are numerous coffee plantations growing some of the most sought after coffee in the world. The area abounds in touristy attractions...numerous tours and mountain and jungle trails, incredible birding, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, treetop canopy tours, scooter rentals, etc. There are numerous waterfalls in the area and one recreational hot spring. Both the Pacific and the Atlantic beaches are from only 1 to 3 hours away.
