About our home

The house was build and finished 2011 for my retirement. Another smaller house was build in the back of the 850m2 property for my parents and their retirement. Unfortunately my mom has passed away and my Dad has moved back to Europa. The smaller Guest-house has been rented to a super nice American who is also retired and enjoys the simple life in Butuan City! The Main house has been build to European standards as much that was possible! It has a very homey feel to it and the 12-14 feet high ceiling in the living and kitchen, dining area gives it a "open air" feeling. The Master bedroom and the kids room (one of them I keep locked, sorry!) are elevated up 2 steps, so that even older people have no problem. NO CLIMBING any stairs!
The kitchen has a convection oven, a hood, coffee maker, toaster and all the things for cooking a great meal, since my wife LOVES to cook, and the restaurants are few! The office has phone/internet and 2 PC's for you to use! The office has its own separate toilet! Too far to run to the main master bath in case of "emergency"! Power outs or "brownouts" as they call them here are becoming few! Maybe every 2 weeks for 10 min. up to 1-2 hours! But, there is a 6,5 Hp Generator, that can be used! Due to the fact that it rains a lot, there are also "WATER CUT OFFS" when there is heavy rain for more then half a day! These last any were from 2 hours up to 12 hours! So, you kind of have to be "flexible" or adventures to deal with this, reminding one that the Philippines are a third world country! There is always enough water for those "emergencies"!

More about us

  1. I am a 51 year old "traveler" that was born in the Czech Republic and has moved ever since my parents escaped the Communists who invaded in 1968. Since then, I have moved around the world, lived in different countries in Europa, lived and worked for 10 years in Miami Beach, also grew up on Vancouver Island and graduated in Vancouver. Then also lived/worked in the Dom. Republic and so on... now for the last 5 years lived and NOT worked in the Philippines! Came to retire and its been quit a ride! One of the most beautifull countries in the world. Unfortunately is poverty and family planning a subject nobody wants to talk about.More and more people from especially the US and Europa are coming to retire here, because of cost of living is becomming more and more of a problem in their place. So if you would like to see the "end of the world" please contact me! Thank you!

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

The neighborhood I chose to build the houses is a fairly quiet FILIPINO area!We are about 5 min.(by car)away from the biggest shopping mall in the region! If you take a local taxi, called "trycicle" which is basically a motorcycle with a roof that can hold up to 5-7 people, then it will take about 15-20 min to get there! A nice very modern meat and grocery shop is even closer! The ISLAND of Mindanao,we are on the north coast is exremely safe for tourists and mother nature is here still at its best! You can go scuba diving OR take local buses to take you to take you to other islands, like SIARGAO ISLAND,about a 5-7hours trip, which is becomming one of the best SURFING sites around the world! OFF RAODING or mountain biking are ENDLESS! Other then that, its REALLY QUIET from 9PM at night! The house is surrounded by palm trees and plenty of OPEN space! The trycicles pass by the house every few minutes. Or one can hitch a ride with my tenant! Just ask...or make arrangements for the next day! He does not mind at all!
