Sarah's reviews
As a host (2)“We really enjoyed our holiday in Poland. The house is really nice and facing the lake so you have swimming right on your doorstep. The whole area is full of interesting places, e.g. the Wolfchanze where the unsuccessful attempt to kill Adolf Hitler has been made, or the Bielovieza forest with last wild living Bizons in Europe. The owners, Sarah and Richard are running a very nice restaurant (part of it located directly on the lake) and hotel in the town of Elk. They have very delicious food and a large selection of beers. Visiting the restaurant is a must! They were also extremely helpful and took as to very interesting places and recommended a lot of other places to visit. We are quite experienced exchanges, we have done 10+ exchanges and that one was a big success. Thank you Sarah and Richard!!!”
More about us
-
We are a married couple in our 40s. Ryszard, and Sarah. We often travel with our freinds and sometimes with our grown up children Matthew and Thomas.
We have done several very successful exchanges so far, both simultaneous and guest points and we are looking forward to our next trip.
I am English and my husband is Polish, we met working on Princess Cruises many years ago!
We both love travelling and since we built our second home, Home Exchange seemed the ideal way to explore.
We run a hotel, bar and a restaurant in the town of Elk, I also teach English part-time.
We are pretty flexible about dates and non-simultaneous exchanges are possible.
Car exchange is also possible ( a Citreon Berlingo), as are a few nights in our hotel if you fancy a change of scene, and a night on the town in Elk.
We speak English, Polish and German. The house is a second home and holiday home.

Where is it?
Neighbourhood
Sajzy is a peacefull village located on the shores of Lasmiady lake, close to the town of Elk and on the edge of a large forest.
It has a local bus service and one shop close to the house.
Elk is 15 minutes away by car and there are numerous bars, restaurants and clubs there.
Watersports equipment can be rented and there is a beautiful promanade that takes you right around Elk lake.
You will find larger supermarkets there to stock up the fridge.
There is also a riding stables, two bowling alleys, and a cinema.
The Mazury region is known as the land of a 1000 lakes, close to the Lithuainian border the house is an ideal base to explore a few of them!
The forest is just a short walk away where you can pick wild mushrooms, strawberries or blueberries or just enjoy the peace and tranquility and try and spot a deer or moose.
If it's history you like Mazury has plenty, from Hitlers bunkers to pyramids, old castles, churches, monestaries and palaces we can help out with off the beaten track treasures.
Fishing:
The record pike caught with a fishing rod in Poland weighed over 24 kg, and the biggest carp was 3kg heavier. The anglers who caught them said that the fight took over five hours! In Poland, even the calm waters on the shores of a Mazurian lake can turn into an adventure.
Pike, pike-perch, catfish and eels are abundant in the lakes and rivers.
All fishermen have to have an angling license and a suitable fishing permit.
The house sleeps 6 adults, with additional sleeping for three small children (cots and fold away bed)).
The three bedrooms can be twins or doubles on request.
We can assist with airport pickups and any special requests you may have.
A note about airports:
Warsaw Airport 'Okecie' and Warsaw Modlin are 3 hours away by car also there are regular daily bus services directly to Elk, but if your're flying consider Kaunas Airport Lithuainia too, it's slightly closer and the road is a lot better.
Kaunas is a beautiful old city worth a visit.
