About our home

A beautiful rustic stone house located 5 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean on the island Sao Miguel (Azores). The house is surrounded by the mountains with many trails. One of them leads to a breathtaking waterfall Salto do Prego. This is a great place for people who like hiking and wild nature. In the overwhelming peace one can hear only sounds of the ocean waves and many typical to Azores birds. After hiking or taking a swim you can rest on the ocean view terrace or in the shade of the banana trees in the garden. At night in summer you can hear the unusual voices of the ancient birds cagarros which have their nests in the forest next to our house. All year around you can see buzzards (after which the island was named mistaking them for hawks) flying over the garden. It is a place to rest, regenerate and fill up with the energy of nature.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

It is a place for people who like nature, hiking and peace.
There not to many tourists here and not attractions like discos, shops etc. There is one restaurant and one coffee shop.
This is an interesting area form historical point of view because Povoacao and Faial da Terra was the first area to which the sailors first arrived while discovering Azores. After seeing the birds flying around they named the island Azores (hawks).
The house is surrounded by the mountains with many walking trails. One of them leads to a breathtaking waterfall Salto do Prego. Another one starts just at our house. It leads to a wale watching hut and the views of the ocean on the way is stunning. You can also go from our willage to north side of the island (Nordeste) through Tronqueira. It is another trail with incredible views of the mountains (through the native azorean forest). On the way you can visit the reserve of priolo (typical azorean birds that they are trying to save from extinction). Don`t forget comfortable shoes for walking in the mountains. From our village you can easy go by bus to Furnas (hot springs) and Terra Nostra Garden with large natural swimming pool with hot thermal water.
