During the hotter months a car is definitely required, but during the cooler months from November to March.

For the children, the Lagos Science Museum which is relatively unknown is great for the under 10's.

The largest shopping mall is Algarve Shopping in Guia but Lagos has a wide range of boutique shops and of course restaurants.
The Italian up from the main square in Lagos is a favorite of ours and Chico's on the N125 next to the pottery is very popular with the locals but for lunches only. Adega Da Marina opposite the marina for value for money food. Always busy and great for the kids.
Alvor for sardines and fish on the water front is also a nice place to eat.
