“Our first visit to Portugal was enhanced by the wonderful hospitality and facilities provided by Linda in her delightful home in Lousada Portugal. The location is very convenient for traveling to the numerous historic places of interest in the region and access to the Douro river from the fabulous city of Porto (35 min drive away) to the upper reaches of this magnificent waterway and the many famous vineyards along it's banks. There wasn't a facility not provided in Linda's home and as it was a non simultaneous exchange, her advice and assistance was a huge bonus. Trust is so important to us when seeking a successful exchange partner and location and our expectations were exceeded on both counts. Thank you Linda for providing us with such a happy and memorable home exchange experience Neil and Desrie Hunter Valley NSW Australia”

About our home
My house is on the edge of a small town, Lousada, and I live there most of the year when I am not travelling. The property is ideally located equally for relaxing in the sun by the pool or for exploring the area's beautiful scenery and the rich cultural heritage of Northern Portugal. There are 2 double bedrooms, a lounge with a sofabed, a third bedroom with twin beds, a fully equipped modern bathroom, a further separate WC and a newly furbished kitchen. There is a small garden at the front and a larger garden to the rear of the property with lawns, flowers and fruit trees as well as a swimming pool with a newly-built terrace area for lounging!. The property has air-conditioning/heating in the main bedroom and the lounge, with heating also available in the bathroom. Below this is a large studio space where I like to paint: my living space is at the rear of this and is quite separate.. The outlook to the front is suburban but to the rear there is a large farm and fields, a few houses mid-distances and a lovely view of the volley of the River Sousa towards the distant hills and mountains.

Linda's reviews
As a host (2)“We spent a wonderful 3 weeks in Linda’s home in Lousada. The location was excellent - just 1/2 hour from Porto, easy access to the Douro Valley, and in close proximity to several historic villages and scenic countryside. We were impressed with what northern Portugal has to offer – beautiful scenery, history, quaint rustic towns, rugged national parks, the unique charm and character of Porto, and friendly people. This was our first visit to Portugal, and hopefully not the last. As this was a non-simultaneous exchange, Linda was always on hand ready to help, and suggest places to go, providing directions and extra information. Linda’s home is comfortable and has everything we needed, and coupled with Linda’s friendly personality, made for a wonderful exchange.”

I am a retired teacher, now a rather addicted traveler, artist and explorer of the world. I am a widow and live alone with my two cats. I spend my days painting and drawing in my artist studio beneath my house, or just relaxing, though much of the year I am travelling. I also rent the house during the summer months to guests from all over the world, which up until now has been really successful. Some friends told me about house swapping and thought it would be ideal for me, as I already know how to present my house for others to enjoy, and I am so keen to see other parts of the world. I love wonderful scenery, nature and especially birdwatching. I love meeting people and making new friends and I hope I am very easy to talk to and easy going.

Neighbourhood
The villa is on the edge of a local small town, Lousada. The nearest city, well worth a visit, is Porto and is 30 minutes' drive or easily reached by a very cheap train service(free station parking). There are a number of other historic towns all within 30 minutes' drive and areas of great scenic and natural beauty are within easy reach. It is also the ideal place to discover the 'real' working Portugal, to get to know some of the local people, who are among the most hospitable in Europe. There are lots of facilities in Lousada - there is a good pool and gym, sports centre, many restaurants and a pleasant town centre.
