About our home

Our large apartment (approx. 100m2) is part of a bigger Quinta (traditional Portuguese wine farm), and completely equipped for 2 persons. It has an open kitchen / living room with a wood burner, big bedroom and adjoining bath room. From the covered terrace you have a loverly view into the valley and the vineyard. Here you will wake up with the sounds of singing birds and a little water fall. In the season you can use the (12 x 5 m.) salt water pool.

We have our own apartment on the same grounds of the Quinta, just 100 meters away. Things are set up in a way that everyone have their own privacy.
We're located in Pedrógão Grande (1:40 min from Lisbon and Porto, 40 min from Coimbra), a lovely village with local shops, restaurants and markets.

Neighbourhood

Ready for Quality Time, Authentic People, Incredible Nature, Great Food & Wines

Our apartment is located in a secluded valley, so you will experience a very quiet and serene environment. In the direct neighbourhood there are plenty possibilities to swim in the lakes or rivers, fish, wander around, or do more active outdoor sports. Also, we are very close to the Aldeias do Xisto: a network of 20+ small, very authentic schist villages in the mountains. We highly recommend you to visit a couple of them! In the house there is a lot of documentation about these villages, their extensive network of walking routes, restaurants, etc. A must do!

Some nice restaurants in Pedrogao Grande and in villages nearby... Pedrogao Grande: - A taberna do ferrador, located just behind the town hall building near the garden/park in center of the village. Good food and great wines. In Pedrogao Grande there are a couple of good local restaurants. They serve good and honest food and are very good to taste the fair ambiance of the interior of Portugal. Try one of the many dishes of the day: very large portions, big cans of local wine, lots of light and always a TV set with Portuguese news and futebol! Try the canteen of the Bombeiros Voluntarios (fire fighters) that is open for public, and lots of locals come here to have lunch. Always opened, as well for dinner. It serves good and honest food, don't expect Michelin stars here :-)

Serta (+/- 15km., via IC8) This village is divided by a river. If you pass the old stone bridge (only by foot), you'll see a restaurant. Lots of locals, great regional dishes. Portions are huge. No reservations, sometimes you have to wait a bit. “Fugas” in Mosteiro, next to the Praia Fluvial in Mosteiro (one or two exits on the IC8, direction Fig. Vinho). Beautiful restaurant with great interior in old building that used to be the regional olive oil factory. In the village of Talasnal (one of the Aldeias do Xisto): Restaurant A Ti Lena (only lunch). Very beautiful location, great and authentic food. In the middle of this mountain village you'll get a perfect sense of how people used to live here for centuries.

Close to the village and castle of Lousa: O Burgo. Very nice ride (60min.) to combine with hiking in the mountains (Serra de Lousa). This restaurant is located in a park next to a river, and is named after the old castle. Great setting and great food! Both A Ti Lena and O Burgo take reservations which are needed specially in the weekends for lunch. The route to both locations is stunning.

Buzzy restaurants
Taberna do Ferrador in Pedrógão Grande, very nice restaurant with excellent food and a great wine list.
Bit of culture
Coimbra, Tomar, Fatima -- loads of Unesco World Heritage sites within an hour drive.
Walks in the park
We are in the middle of lush and green nature, rivers, lakes etc.
