About our home

If you are looking for a truly Portuguese experience with the feel of living in a fishing village, combined with being minutes from all that Matosinhos has to offer, and just a metro ride from downtown Porto this is the place! We absolutely love our neighborhood and home so we are looking for people who will enjoy it as much as we do!

Recently renovated and newly furnished, the apartment is on the 3rd floor of a building (with elevator) of just 11 apartments with friendly Portuguese neighbors. The apartment includes:
wood floors,
central heating,
an open kitchen plan,
waterfall shower,
queen-sized bed,
plentiful closet space,
a small terrace for two,
washing machine,
TV & cable,
home-office space with a standing desk,
fiber optics internet (200MB download/20MB upload),
very comfortable pullout couch (tried it ourselves :)
weekly housekeeper (including ironing)!!!!

The apartment is located:
In a very local and typically Portuguese part of Matosinhos
In an area surrounded by local shops, markets, butchers, and other locally-owned gems.
2 minutes walk to the Seven Fitness Club
3 minute walk to the beautiful & delicious Mercardo de Matosinhos
4 minute walk to Rua Heróis de França (where all the fish restaurants are)
5 minute walk to Brito Capelo Metro Station
10 minute walk to the beach

More about us

  1. We are an international couple that loves to travel! Carly is American and Miguel is Portuguese. We met while working in Rome for international organizations. From there we lived in Washington, DC, then London, on to Croatia, and now we call Portugal home.

  2. Miguel is an Operations Engineer (he does cool IT stuff with servers) and Carly is wedding celebrant, but trained as an Economist and worked for the likes of the UN and the World Bank. Together we have started a host of businesses - a food tour here in Porto, a coworking space in Croatia, a wedding celebranting business, and a company that sells stainless steel straws.

  3. We believe food is a cultural expression, loving to eat and meet locals wherever we go. We adore being with our four-legged best friend, Samwise, and exploring wherever there is the sun, good food, and happy people

Where is it?

Matosinhos used to be a sleepy fishermen's village, but in recent years has become a trendy spot that attracts upscale families, digital nomads, surfers, retirees, and many more. Somehow with even with this mix, the neighborhood retains its down to earth feel. We can't walk out of the house without running it a neighbor for a friendly catch up or the local butcher offering our dog a treat or being invited to join a friend for a coffee. Below is just a sample of what we have and we are always to offer more recommendations if you can think of something specific you need!

Buzzy restaurants
Mafaldas (located in the local market they have the freshest ingredients), Restaurante O Lusitano, (our favorite local, fresh fish and seafood restaurant - they will treat you like family!), O Gaveto (upscale seafood restaurant that never disappoints), Fava Tonka (hip vegetarian spot with a seasonal menu), Terminal 4450 (great for beer, burgers, and meat this restaurant offers a view of the cruise terminal), Bushido (local sushi spot using fish fresh from the port)
Cool bars
HopTrip Craft Beer Shop (for the best of local and international craft beer), Ammar - Restaurante/Cocketelaria (restaurant and cocktail bar with a terrace and view of the ocean)
Cozy cafés
Manifesto (trendy coffee shop with magazines from around the world and an art space), BomBom Charme (super typical Portuguese pastry shop), Armazém do Caffè (local spot for a variation on typical Portuguese coffee)
Bit of culture
Casa da Arquitetura (House of Architecture), Mercado Municipal de Matosinhos (local fish, fruit, & veg market)
Walks in the park
Park de Cidade, Parque Municipal da Quinta da Conceição
Spot of exercise
Matosinhos beach (surf, SUP, beach volleyball, beach football) & Parque de Cidade (great running and walking trails, as well as a prime spot for picnics!)
Day tripping
Douro Valley, Braga, Guimarães, Aveiro
