“The Villa of Ed, Lover’s Nest, is very beautiful, comfortable, spacious, well equipped and nicely decorated with an atmosphere that made us immediately feel at home. It has a lovely and spacious garden and seating area with large swimming pool, sauna and barbecue. The Villa is located in a nice quiet rural area (where you are awakened in the morning with birds singing!) and various shops, the fresh produce and fish markets and the towns of Moncarapacho and Olhão within short driving distance. Lover’s Nest is the perfect base for exploring the beautiful coast and villages of Algarve. Ed gave us a very warm welcome, he is the most perfect host, gentle and friendly. We have enjoyed his good humour, balanced outlook on life, wisdom and above all just the gentleman that he is which have made an everlasting impression on us. We are very privileged that Ed made this exchange possible and thoroughly enjoyed the stay and we wish to extend our sincere gratitude for his great hospitality. The closest beach is only 3 km away in Fuzeta in the famous Ria Formosa sanctuary and is one of many beautiful beaches in the Algarve.
The villa has all the comfort one would like and fitted with air conditioning, dishwasher,, oven, washing machine, jacuzzi bathtub , microwave, etc.
The master bedroom has a large roof terras and around the villa is a large terrace area with barbecue and 2 dining areas.
There is a large swimming pool and a private tennis court within the large gardens.
Exchange does not have to be simultaneously as this Is a second home.
Exchange also of a car would be a great advantage for me.
You will need a car at my place to get around. However, this year car rental prices are sky high at Faro airport.
For the people who do point swaps I can offer you one of my convertible cars for rent during your stay.
I have a Ford Escort Deluxe (4 seater) convertible that cost € 35 per day or a BMW Z3 convertible 2 seater sportscaster for € 40 per day. If you rent for minimum one week that price also includes transfers from and to the airport. A taxi from the airport to my place cost about € 50 one way.
Cleaning the villa. When you leave after your stay, please leave the villa as clean as you found it.
Otherwise there is a cleaning charge of € 60.

Ed's reviews
As a host (9)“The Madrugada’s house, is very spacious, comfortable, well equipped and nicely decorated with an atmosphere that made us immediately feel at home. The house is located in a nice quiet area and the towns of Algarve (Faro, Lagos, Portimão, Sagres, Vila Real de Santo Antônio, Loulé and Silves) within short driving distance. It’s the perfect base for exploring the beautiful coast and villages of Algarve. Ed gave us a very warm welcome, he's perfect host, gentle and friendly. We're very privileged that he made this exchange possible, thoroughly enjoyed the stay and we wish to extend our sincere gratitude for his great hospitality. “Quinta Botanica is tucked away like a secret, the gardens are extensive and full of olive and jakaranda trees. The kids loved the pool and the table tennis and all the space and they couldn\'t believe the orange trees. The house was clean and spacious with marble floors and grand sliding glass doors. Ed was very friendly and helpful and we had a great time in Portugal with three kids.”
“We have spent almost 4 weeks on dolce vita, Quinta Botanica during july 2016. What a fantastic exchange and holiday. The house was large, comfortable with a nice pool, complete secluded privacy, a nice BBQ, and lush beautiful gardens and surroundings. We felt in love with Fuseta and fuseta Island. Eating excellent fish at casa corvo, and enjoying the boat trip to the Island and spending the days there, The islands east of Faro have kilometers long white, not crowded beaches, nice snack bars clear, green water, excellent for swimming. . We enjoyed also day trips to tavira / tavira Island, ilha farol, praia de marinha and Lagos as well as Sagres. Ed was an excellent host. Communication went easy all the way, with prompt replies. Everything went smooth at arrival and departure, and he left our home exactly like we left it. My brother and father had the great pleasure of meeting ed in person in Oslo. We will have great memories of this exchange and we wish this wonderful host all the best for his future swaps.”
“Ed has several luxurious villas on his estate, developed after many years of hard work. The estate is located close to the authentic Portuguese village called Moncarapacho and between the larger cities of Faro (with its International airport) and the beautiful Tavira. Guests can spend all the time at the resort relaxing by their own private swimming pool or perhaps playing a game of tennis on the estates court. This is an ideal location as the coastline in the Algarve is some of the best in the world and the weather is perfect. I was also lucky to be able to spend some time with Ed who also lives some of the year on his estate. Ed is very knowledgeable on many subjects and has traveled extensively so has a lot of interesting stories to tell. A wonderful home exchange.”
“We had a very nice week in Portugal. You need a car to get around but there is beautiful nature and incredible beaches, and nice villages. We liked nearby Culatra and Tavira islands, Loule, Tavira and Cacela Velha. Ed is such a nice person, it was very pleasant to exchange homes with him. We stayed at Dolce Vita which has lots of outside equipment to sit or lie in the sun. The house was spacious, the equipment is a bit out of date but for a holiday it was fine. It was lovely to meet Ed shortly before our departure. We recommend this home exchange.”
“We had a great time in Moncarapacho. Ed's home is located in the countryside which guarantee;s a peaceful, relaxing environment in which to chill out and re-charge your body. The pool area is perfect to escape to when you need to cool down! With the car we hired it was just a short drive to a couple of nearby towns and villages to stock up on provisions and to enjoy the delicious fresh fish which the fishermen landed on a daily basis. We were even offered a share of their lunch fresh from the BBQ they had set up on the quay! Ed is an absolute please to deal with and I am sure we will be keeping in touch in the future. ”
“We had the privilege of staying in one of Ed's gorgeous Villas "Lovers Nest" in the Algarve, Portugal. We were in heaven, the villa is completely private from the rest with beautiful shady gardens, a wonderful private swimming pool that we used every day, a swinging hammock, day bed, sauna and BBQ. Inside we found every luxury and were even allowed to use one of his cars. Ed was the most wonderful host, picking us up from Faro airport and taking us to get bus tickets for Seville at the other end of our stay. We cannot speak highly enough of Ed and his villas. When Ed came to New Zealand and stayed in both of our houses, he left them spotless and seemed to enjoy his stay. Thank you so much to Ed and HomeforExchange.”
“In July we stayed in one of Ed's holiday villa's in Moncarapacho. It was quite luxurious with gardens creating private quiet places for relaxing. The village was close by with great cafes. The closest swimming beach was Fuseta which became a favourite place to visit. The town itself had great fried fish in the outdoor cafes and the beach was reached by ferry across the Ria Formosa to an island where patrolled beaches were accessed by the locals. the Atlantic was crystal clear but very cold. The weather was very hot so we appreciated this refreshing dip. Ed was ready to help with any problems and was a very entertaining host. We had a great time and would recommend this exchange for anyone visiting Portugal.”

I am Dutch but have lived more than 35 years outside of Holland. Usually , when I am not traveling, I stay 6 months a year at my place in Portugal and 6 months a year in my place in Sri Lanka. I am more of a globetrotter who enjoys nature as much as culture. My hobby is traveling around the world and I have visited something like 112 countries and have done at least 55 home exchanges. In each corner of this world. I loved all of them.
I usually travel alone but occasionally one of my siblings or family member might join me.

Where is it?
Neighbourhood
The villa is on a private Estate with more than 13.000 M2 semi-tropical park and gardens, ponds, swimming pool, private tennis court, trampoline etc. QUINTA BOTANICA is quietly located in the countryside away from the noise but only 8 minutes by car to the nearest beach. One of the many beautiful beaches in the Algarve. Airport Faro is only 20 minutes away. Many supermarkets and shoppingmalls are nearby in places like Olhao, Tavira and Faro. However, you will need a car to get around. That’s why I recommended a car exchange as well.
Car rentals might be very expansive. Especially in high season (which seems to be nearly all year these days)
I have a few convertible cars to choose from.
Villa Madrugada is very central located and ideal to make daytrips, visit different beaches and even Sevilla in Spain is only 2 hours away. Also you can just opt to stay just home at Quinta Botanica, enjoy the gardens and pool and just get lazy chilling out, reading a book, listing to music or a podcast or just listen to the birds in the garden.
Many people enjoy the pond, full of frogs and a turtle named Pebbles.
You could also go and walk to the small, but very authentic, nearby village of Moncarapacho to mix with the locals on a terrace at the church’s square. By the way, there are several splendid restaurants to be found in Moncarapacho as well as in nearby Fuzeta, Olhao or Tavira. If you are a Fish lover, this area is paradise for you as fish is always fresh from the nearby sea. Whatever you do, it will be impossible to get bored.
You will find a map with many tips for daytrips and all sorts of information to have a good time.
Have a nice holiday.
