Luna 208 was an abandon corner in the center of the historic San Juan neighborhood. In our search to find a warehouse type of property were we could fulfill simultaneously the need of living and the need of having green space we found Luna 208, an abandoned corner in the center of the historic town. The construction and rehabilitation, which included new wiring and plumbing, took nearly two years to complete and the outcome was subtly modern and painstakingly simple. We moved into the home in late 2007. The house is a big open loft with lots of natural lighting and cross ventilation. Original arches and spaces are preserve and a respect to the structure is felt. The house first floor is dedicated to an art organization (See my Homepage) that I founded with two artist and has a library and others activities. Washing and drying machine, entrance and one bathroom are at that level. The second and third floor are the living headquarters with a space of 2,500 sq. feet per floor. In the second floor we have the two children rooms, kitchen, living room, basketball court. In the third floor we have our room, edible garden, open green roof terrace, and TV room and space for BBQ.
We are Ferdy (49) and Michy (48), a married couple with two sons, Daniela who is 19 and Rodrigo who is 13. We are both professional my husband a non-practicing lawyer who dedicates to the preservation of the environment and me a contemporary art curator and cultural producer. Travel is something very important to us specially when is not in a tour type of context. We prefer to be in a place and experience it through discovery. We have lived in Old San Juan since 1986. We have a group of local friends that live also in the old city and we are willing to help you around since this have being our neighborhood for many years. We have not done a home exchange before but we have plan it for many years. For us it will be important to arrange the exchange in advance in order to coordinate the details and possible dates so that we can coordinate with our schedules.
Our neighborhood is a block away from the Plaza de Armas (the Main Plaza), close to supermarket, restaurants. It is a walkable city so everything is done by walking. Old San Juan is a well preserved historic city with most of its 16th century fortifications and colonial structures. It is a lively city, with an active working environment and tourist destination during the day and nightlife. There is also a local community of neighbors who makes the city a particular place and locally relevant community. Buses are very close by and beaches are also at walking distance.
