On the north coast of this beautiful island lies Isabel Segunda "El Pueblo" of Isla de Vieques. Isabel Segunda is the only town in Vieques and the majority of the 10,000 residents on the island live in this town. Isabel II is a charming town filled with colorful homes, warm people and rich history. This small town is the home to the last Spanish fort built in the Americas. Isabel Segunda has the main shopping district and the home of the ferry, which travels to the town of Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Come into town for some great "comida criolla" (traditional food) and pastelillos (traditional pastries filled with a variety of fruit fillings). Take a break from the sun and head to town, walking the main town of a destination gets you in touch with locals, their food and way of life. During the way learn about the island's history, and at night head into town for Viequense owned restaurant where they serve traditional Puerto Rican food.
Visit El Fortin Conde de Mirasol - Get to know Vieques by visiting The Last Spanish Fort Built in the Americas. There are wonderful exhibits with history of the island, Taino and Spanish artifacts, the history of the Navy's presence in Vieques and many cultural activities and exhibits are featured throughout the year.
Visit Punta Mulas Lighthouse - The views are excellent and there is a small museum inside.
Go to a Panaderia and eat fresh bread with a cup of coffee or a traditional cold drink and indulge with a Puerto Rican desert.
Visit La Plaza - Every town in Puerto Rico has a plaza, which is considered the very heart and center of the town. Locals sit down to catch up on stories with friends as they play a game of dominoes with great enthusiasm. Don't be shy and see if they allow you to join in so you can experience the laid back attitude of island living.
Shopping - Grocery stores and most of the shops are located in Isabel Segunda.
