About our home

Comfortable, light and quiet apartment in the centre of Bucharest. It has two bedrooms: both can sleep 2 persons. One of the rooms has a children's bed. The livingroom has a balcony which is nicely shaded by the great tree in front of us. We look out on a church and in winter we have a view on people's palace. In summertime the balcony is great for the evenings as you will watch the sun going down. Also one of the bedrooms has a balcony. It is a perfect and compact city apartment and it is the right place to start exploring Bucharest, a city which is dynamic and rapidly changing.
The apartment is part of a complex built in 50's and interesting from architectural and urbanistic point of view. The entrance is light and well maintained and there is an elevator.

More about us

  1. We are Joep and Meta, two Dutchies living in Bucharest since 2008. Last summer our boy was born, who has just turned 1 year now. We have our own company focusing on sustainable urban and regional development in Romania and the neighbouring countries. We are fascinated and interested in finding out how cities work from economic and institutional point of view (Joep) and from architectural and urbanistic point of view (Meta) and how they can be made more attractive or competitive. We work together with the Romanian authorities, the Dutch government and private companies. We have seen Bucharest improving a lot in the last couple of years. Whereas in the beginning we found most of the city quite grey and unfriendly, this has definitely changed into a dynamic and lively atmosphere. We experience Bucharest now as dynamic and growing and offering nice surprises.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

The building is exacly placed in the heart of the city centre. When you cross the street you will be immediately in historical Bucharest. Since spring this year the streets have been nicely refurbished and the historical area is now the major place to go out for a drink or dinner and to watch people pass by. Our apartment is the starting point for Calea Victoriei, the oldest and most interesting street of Bucharest. Walking down the street you will experience the several stages of history in the city. It leads along the most important museums, the concert halls, fancy shops and recently renovated buildings and hotels.
The park Csismigiu can be reached in 10 min and is a wonderful green oasis to have a beer, let the children play or read a book one of the many benches. Behind our house the Casa Bucur is situated, they say the first inn in town. Now it houses a Romanian restaurant with a big courtyard and beautiful trees. Heading further you will reach the People's palace in 5 min from our home. The building shows the megalomanic ideas from the dictator in Communist time. You will instantly experience the extraordinary proportions of this second largest building in the world. The boulevard leading to the palace is based on the Paris Champs Elysees and has been decorated with fountains in the middle of the street. Also shopping malls and the patriarch are 10 min away from home.
