About our home

Our home is a gorgeous traditional 'Black and White' home built in 1900. It is full of colonial charm but with all the modern conveniences. It is set on a huge block, bordered by a 8 metre hedge with lots of tropical plants, including a gorgeous banyan tree. Despite this it is less than 10 minutes drive to Orchard Road and the centre of Singapore. It a 5 minute walk to the underground train, which is 2 stops from Orchard Road and 5 or 6 stops to the city or Marina Bay Sands, respectively. It has a private pool, trampoline and cubby house/jungle gym. It is also within 5 minutes walk of four supermarkets, a children's mall and a sports mall. It is possible to walk to the famous newton circus hawker centre.

Downstairs has a large entrance hall with piano, toys and books as well as stairs to the second floor. This leads to an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, beautifully furnished with Italian designer furniture. The house is light filled with large windows and doors leading on to the huge garden. Due to the warm weather, these remain open throughout the day. To the left of the entrance hall is a TV room with large lie down sofa.

There is a covered outdoor living area and a non-covered outdoor dining patio (with a four burner gas BBQ). There are also two kitchens and a downstairs bathroom with shower and toilet.

Upstairs there are three large bedrooms, a nursery and a covered balcony with double bed. The master bedroom has a super king bed with ensuite bathroom and study. The second bedroom is the children's room with a single bed and a cot bed. The third bedroom has a single bed and a pull out trundle bed. All room have large sash windows and doors. There is also a large playroom/sitting room upstairs with all the toys you could imagine and a sofa. This is a lovely room with huge windows overlooking the grounds.

There is a cottage attached to the back of the house by a small covered walkway which has a forth/guest guest bedroom. Next door is a room set up with table tennis.

The house has high speed wireless internet throughout, a large apple mac computer, a wall mounted, surround sound home entertainment system and pay TV.

We have a lovely full time house keeper who lives in a cottage separate from the house but on the premises who will clean the house while we are away at no extra cost (unless she is on holiday!) and who may be available for child minding at an extra cost. Taxis are cheap, plentiful and very easy so no need for a car.

Singapore is the land of endless summer, everyday of the year the temperature is between 29 and 33 degrees celcius. It is a beautiful city, lush and green with lots of well maintained public green spaces and forests. It is clean and efficient and easy to get around. Singapore has excellent shopping and has reinvented itself as the foodie capital of Asia, it has everything from the simplest, cheapest street snacks to some of the best restaurants in the world.

Singapore is also an excellent stepping off point to explore the rest of Asia with most of Asia's top destinations a short flight, boat ride or drive away.

More about us

  1. We are a family of six, mum (Melanie) and dad (Tristan) and four children, Amelie (7), Sach (5), Poppy (3) and Suki (1). We are originally from Australia but prior to Singapore lived six years in London and one year in Hong Kong. We all love to travel, experience different cultures, eat local and wonderful food (our kids love it too!!) and meet new people.

  2. Our children are lots of fun but they are used to living with nice things and understand how to look after them, we would look after your home as we do ours.

  3. We would like to be home in Australia every year for christmas and January and are looking for a house in Sydney and in Noosa or Byron Bay for one or two weeks each. We would also like to return to London and anywhere interesting in Europe in June/July each year. But we are absolutely interested in any great home/destination in the world for a house swap so get in touch!
