About our home

Our little piece of heaven right on the beach with 180 degrees sea view, surrounded by beautiful nature. Tranquil and private; away from the crowds yet only 15 minutes from the nearest village, St Francis Bay, with all amenities (restaurants, shops, dentist, doctors, tennis club, golf etc.) This is a place for nature lovers who love to get away from it all and switch off, but still have lots of other options nearby for some active days and variety. Lat 34:11:47S, Lon 24:47:27E. About 7km dirt/farm road from main road between Cape St Francis and St Francis Bay. Two security gates with remote control once you have turned off the main road onto the dirt road. One of only seven houses for more than 4km of coast. The original family cottage has been in the family for more than a 100 years and is next door.

Big double volume open plan sitting-dining-kitchen area with huge fireplace/indoor barbeque. Separate scullery/laundry room. Four bedrooms and three bathrooms = Two downstairs: one double en suite and one with two single beds en suite. Two upstairs sharing a bathroom: one with four single beds and one double. Outdoor barbeque area. Outdoor shower and also an outdoor bath tucked away under the Melkhout. No pets allowed (protecting oyster catchers and otters). Watch the whales and dolphins from the stoep (terrace) in winter months. Rock pools at low tide provide hours of fun for the kids. Small sandy beach in front of house. Long white sandy beaches (swimming and surfing) are only 15 minutes away at St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis.

Walk along the coast to the lighthouse, about 5km away and have lunch at Tradewinds (the lovely Lisl's rustic little coffee shop) or Liquid Lines (small indoor swimming pool with coffee shop). More serious hikers can try the beautiful Chokka Trail which passes in front of our house http://chokkatrail.co.za/. Learn to surf with Cody and his team from Surf Camp South Africa (Cape St Francis) http://surfcampsouthafrica.co.za/. Horse riding on the beach in Jeffreys Bay with Papiesfontein or Featherfoot. Award winning St Francis Links golf course with beautiful thatched club house restaurant in St Francis Bay https://www.stfrancislinks.com/. Experience the St Francis Bay Canals and Kromme river on a boat cruise with St Francis Safaris or Riverbreak. Variety of restaurants to choose from in St Francis Bay or try one of our favourites in Jeffreys Bay; the rustic outdoor sandy floor Die Walskipper with traditional South African food. World renowned surfing spots in Jeffreys Bay (35 minutes away) and Cape St Francis (15 minutes away). For even more adventure go to the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve. Addo Elephant Park, Shamwari, Kariega, Hill's Nek Safari and a whole host of other malaria free game lodges to the east and Tsitsikamma National Park and upmarket Plettenberg Bay and Knysna to the west. All about two hours drive away. 130km from Port Elizabeth Airport.

Before you fly home, drive along the amazing Garden Route to Cape Town and visit all the other places on offer in our unique country. Or start in Cape Town and fly out from Port Elizabeth. We are more than happy to provide advise and information.

More about us

  1. We are a family of four with two fun-loving active boys aged 19 and 17 who love the outdoors and nature

  2. We are both teachers: Piet teaches Mathematics and Jacomien, Food and Nutrition

  3. We are from South Africa, but work and live in England. We still call South Africa home and are fortunate enough to have the best of both worlds with our sanctuary on the beach in South Africa. We love to travel and experience interesting remote places off the beaten track all over the world with our boys and sometimes extended family
