About our home

Please note: At the moment we are only interested in a home / points swap with:
1. Sydney - preferably Mosman/ Lower North shore/ Northern Beaches for 2019.
2. Chicago - Christmas 2018.

This is our lovely beachfront weekend home in the Jakkalsfontein Private Nature Reserve on the South African West Coast. It is only a 60 minute drive from Cape Town to the south and 30 minutes to the West Coast National Park and Langebaan lagoon to the north.

A boardwalk next to the house leads onto the pristine beach. Three luxurious bedrooms (2 queen size beds, 2 single beds), three bathrooms (huge main ensuite). A cot, toddler bed and high chair cater for younger members of the family. The bedrooms are all northfacing with loads of sunlight and views into the dunes. The master bedroom also overlooks the ocean and Table Mountain in the distance.

Open plan lounge/kitchen with Morso fireplace for colder days. Fully equipped kitchen with both electrical and gas stovetop options. Dishwasher, washing machine and dryer in the scullery. Large flat screen TV with Netflix. The large semi- open mezzanine area under the rafters has wooden floors, a cosy library and the TV area. Safety gates keep younger children from entering the mezzanine. There is another tv in the downstairs sitting room. Two newly installed Hergom stoves in the living areas provide heat during cooler days. The house has uncapped wifi.

Soak up the sun on the private north/ east facing patios or barbeque on the Weber. Or have your morning coffee at the ocean facing side of the house.

The house is located in a manned security nature estate with a pool (including a shallow children's section), children's play area, tennis courts and a squash court. We have two bicycles to ride with on the many tarred paths and dirt bicycle paths in the reserve. The reserve has an abundance of wildlife such as buck, tortoise, whales, dolphins and seals and birds such as ostrich, pelicans, flamingo, hummingbirds and eagle. The dune landscape has its own unique flora such as restios and succulents. August/early September is a beautiful time of year when there are spring flowers everywhere. During this time of year, the local ranger takes guests into the estate with a 4 x4, to view the veld from close by.

We think of Jakkalsfontein as paradise.

The West Coast is world renowned for its spring flowers ( August-September), its unspoilt beaches and its temperate winters. Jakkalsfontein is located in the beautiful West Coast dune landscape with views towards the Darling hills.

The nearby town of Darling is home to Evita's Perron and South Africa's beloved satirist Pieter Dirk Uys. The area has several award winning wine farms such as Groote Post, Darling Cellars and Kloof.

Buy fresh fish in the neighbouring town of Yzerfontein or drive further north to the West Coast National Park and Langebaan - famous for its lagoon and all kinds of watersports such as kyaking and windsurfing.

And then there is Cape Town with everything it has to offer.. An easy 60 minute drive away.
