About our home

My home is comfortable and spacious. It has a large kitchen with open plan dining- and lounge and barbecue area. All the doors leading to the garden are stackable, so that you can open it up and live out into the garden. The garden is private and has a view of the mountains and has many trees and have big trees with squirrels running in the garden. I love spending time in my home and having friends over, it is warm and inviting. I am very creative and my house is decorated with fine antiques as well as a rusty look.
I love gardening and you'll see an interesting corner everywhere you go in the garden with hammocks where you can enjoy reading and enjoying nature. There is an inside and outside barbecue area and 2 fireplaces inside. We are well known for our stunning weather, so spending time outdoors is a must. I have a cleaning lady that comes in twice a week.

My house is available for an exchange any time during 2016.

More about us

  1. I am a fashion designer and a photographer and enjoy travelling when able to get away. Home Exchange is a great way to see and live in other countries - and allow someone to see mine.

My partner, Jaco is as creative as me, he sculptures, takes photos and owns and runs an Industrial design business with a focus on developmental toys for kids.

We are young at heart and soul, we want to get away and live life amongst the locals

Where is it?

Somerset West is situated in the picturesque Helderberg area about 50 kilometres (30 mi) east of the must visit city of `Cape Town, 6 km from pristine white beaches, 70 km from Hermanus where one can watch wales from shore and 100km from Kleinbaai where one can dive with Great White sharks. Stellenbosch has not even been mentioned, historical town of great importance and also home to one of the top Universities in the South Africa. A most perfect place to stay to visit the glorious Western Cape region. The town is overlooked by the imposing Helderberg (meaning "clear mountain"), a part of the Hottentots-Holland range of mountains.

The Helderberg Nature Reserve, a 363 hectare natural wildlife preserve opened in 1964, contains a wide variety of smaller fauna (buck, tortoises and other reptiles) and outstanding specimens of indigenous flora such as protea and fynbos.
The Vergelegen Wine Estate lies just outside the town itself. The buildings on the estate constitute fine examples of Cape Dutch architecture.
Somerset West contains a number of sporting facilities including several golf courses.
The historic town of Stellenbosch is reachable via the R44 motorway (approx 18 km/11 mi away). The area between Somerset West and Stellenbosch also encompasses many vineyards and wineries (e.g. Rust-en-Vrede, Alto, J.P. Bredell) where visitors can sample and purchase wine. The oldest remaining vineyard in South Africa, Vergelegen, is situated on the outskirts of Somerset West.
In recent years many guest houses and B&Bs have opened up in Somerset West, since it is conveniently located for Cape Town (40 kilometres (25 mi) away on the N2 motorway), the beaches at the Strand and Gordon's Bay, as well as the Western Cape's numerous wine farms.
