About our home

Our flat has a comfortable sized living area with sofa and chairs. The living area opens up to a Juliette style balcony and beautiful view of the back of Table Mountain. Being on the back side of Table Mountain makes it quite a bit cooler in the evenings and early mornings during the summer. Right off the living area is the kitchen fixed with all the basic appliances including an automatic espresso machine, stove top, oven, microwave and refrigerator. The main bedroom has its own bathroom and plenty of closet space to go around. The guest bedroom is also equipped with a nice amount of closet space and the 2nd bathroom is right next door and includes a bath, shower and toilet. We also have a washer and dryer as well as house plants that would need to be taken care of.

Claremont is a beautiful suburb of Cape Town sitting right at the foot of the Cape Town mountains. Our Flat is a short 5 minute walk to Cavendish Square Mall, where you can find everything you need. Cavendish has two movie theaters, a pharmacy, restaurants, cafes, grocery shopping, and more. Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens is about a 1/2 hour walk away and often holds spring and summer concerts. Picnic and Braai (Barbeque) areas also dot this lush suburb. Would recommend renting a car to see the far away sights such as Cape Point or Wine Country but taxis are also easily accessible. The bus is also easy to take down town and only costs R5. The bus stop is only a 5 minute walk away. Our neighborhood mostly consists of older or recently graduated university students and young families. We find the neighborhood relatively quiet though.

My husband and I are both American and moved to Cape Town about 5 months ago, right after our wedding. Ben works for a U.S. publishing company and is now involved in teaching teachers here in Africa about different technology based classroom tools. I am a recently transferred student now attending University of Cape Town. I plan on graduating with majors in linguistics and social anthropology. Ben and I's passion is to travel and learn about different cultures. We have a few African and Asian countries under our belt but our life long dream is to visit every continent. We both love theater and music. The opportunity to try new and interesting foods is also a favorite past time.
