The Midlands Meander is a route situated between the city of Pietermaritzburg and the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site, extending over 80km between Pietermaritzburg and Mooi River allowing you stunning sites and scenery along the route. The expansive countryside is a traveller's delight with breathtaking vistas and endless rolling hills, a picture perfect moment abounds around every bend, countless culinary delights await at the many restaurants to be found along the Meander.
The area is ideal for horse riding, hiking, tubing, swimming, biking, canopy tours, quad biking and fishing or perhaps a relaxed stroll through the beautiful forests and quaint villages, sampling locally brewed beers and wines as well as home-made cheeses. The Meander is also the largest arts and crafts tourism route in South Africa and the nearby Midmar Dam hosts various events throughout the year, including the Midmar Mile swim in February. The area is perfect for windsurfing, sailing, boating and canoeing. Getting there is a mere 4.5 hours from either Johannesburg or Durban.
The house is based on a quintessential Natal farmhouse style architecturally, unspoilt views, lending itself to breathtaking views and sunsets, or, depending on the season, watching the mists roll in over the hills. This is the perfect dream holiday or even a weekend away, restorative relaxed afternoons, lazing on the large veranda with a book or enjoying a glass of wine in front of the fireplace on chilly nights.
The house is perfect for big groups but yet intimate enough for a romantic getaway. Immaculate gardens and ever expansive green surroundings with nearby horses greeting you as you have your morning coffee. If you're lucky you may just glimpse a few local antelope graze on the high grasses nearby. Certainly a birdwatcher's dream!
