Neighbourhood

The picturesque little farming village of Underberg lies in the southern foothills of the Drakensberg range of mountains in the southwest of KwaZulu-Natal.

If you have a four-wheel drive vehicle take a visit to the Sani Pass - the third steepest pass in the world - that winds through some of Africa's most spectacular scenery. If you wish to go over the border into Lesotho a passport is necessary for non-South African citizens.

About 10 kilometers outside Underberg on the road to Swartberg is the Iris garden at Mount Dragon. This garden is well worth visiting, especially in October and November when the Irises are in bloom.

There is plenty of bird-watching in the Underberg area - a chance to see many species that are only seen on or near to the Berg. The rivers and streams around Underberg offer some of South Africa's best trout fishing. Hiking in the Underberg area can be planned so that hikers can spend the night in either a cave or a mountain hut.

Examine the splendor of the indigenous fauna and flora, cosseted in the nearby Natal Parks Board Nature Reserve. Join up with the Giant's Cup Hiking trail that passes through Castleburn or make a journey to the little town of Underberg, 30km away.

Cozy cafés

A one-stop shop, in a relaxed atmosphere, where you simply write you purchases in the book provided, put your money the box and take your change. They also have a playground and an animal farm so the kiddies can play and feed the animals, all fun!!
Bit of culture
REICHENAU MISSION Abbot Francis Pfanner, of the New Reformed Cistercian order of monks, commonly known as Trappists, came out to South Africa during the early 1800s. He first established Mariannhill Mission near Pinetown (Durban) and then the satellite mission at Reichenau. Self-sufficiency was a fundamental part of the Trappist doctrine. True to this principle the monks also erected a school, mill, butchery, bakery, forge and store around the church - all constructed of stone. Only a few buildings are still in active use, chiefly; the church, school and mill..
Walks in the park

Eland’s Peak sits at 1,800m above sea level, whilst 5km of the beautiful UMzimkhulu River flows through the farm as well.
