About our home

Our double storey home is in the safe, secluded and beautiful nature estate called Featherbrooke Estate . See www.featherbrooke-estate.co.za photo gallery. The estate, nestling in the foot of the Roodekrans Ridge mountains and alongside the Crocodile river and the famous Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens, is idyllic. One of the great escapes of Johannesburg, the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens, is almost 300 hectares of landscaped and natural veld that is a haven for birds and a popular picnic spot for locals and visitors with the magnificent Witpoortjie Falls where the breeding Black Eagles are a magnificent experience. As a resident we have direct free access to the gardens from the Estate.

There are guided tours along the Roodekrans Ridge and through the Nature Reserve part of the garden, and the dam and wetland area with its bird hide alone is worth the visit, particularly at sundown just before the gates close. There is a lot of shaded lawn on which to while away balmy days with a bring-along picnic or a meal at the Eagle Nest restaurant.
See www.sanbi.org

Our home has 3 bedrooms, 2 separate en suite master bedrooms and one single with separate bathroom. An office/ study upstairs which has a full balcony overlooking the garden.
Our tranquil garden has a small, private swimming pool. We also have 2 gorgeous cats and a Golden retriever, who the housekeeper will take care of, or we can make alternative arrangements for boarding. Ourdelightful, full time housekeeper, Sareah, takes care of our home, laundry, cats and will do all general house work during your stay.

We have a Grand Jeep Cherokee should you wish to have a car at your disposal- we can arrange separate insurance requirements, if this is included. Our home is a short 5 minute walk up to the estates clubhouse and restaurant, close to the tennis courts, squash courts and children’s skate park and play areas. Walking and jogging paths meander from the top to the bottom of the estate with several water ponds and thriving bird life everywhere.
It would be great to have a family or couple who would enjoy and appreciate it, as we would appreciate and care for your home.

Are you the family for us after reviewing this? If so, we look forward to connecting, chatting and making sure you have everything you need for a true South African experience and any questions you may have.

More about us

  1. We are a "make-it-happen" and vibrant husband and wife team, (our 4 children have flown the nest - some still a little stuck in the branches) working as business owners and entrepreneurs and growing our mobile-enabled knowledge management and mentoring boutique consultancy business and innovative mobile App suite globally, hence our frequent travel needs and staying where we can feel at home whilst working, would be first prize.

  2. We have 2 gorgeous and highly independent cats and a beautiful 2 year old golden retriever who will be taken care of by our live-in housekeeper in our absence - who will also be able to provide interested Love Home Swop guests with full daily housekeeping duties and also laundry and simple cooking assistance if and when needed

  3. Philip and I are keen bikers and have a Harley Davidson Ultra-Classic CVO, as well as a KTM 690 R and 350 EXC-F for any appropriately experienced and licenced "kindred" spirits and we have travelled extensively from cost to coast across the USA twice. Phil can introduce any seasoned off-road biker into his wonderful network of talented Adventure and / or Enduro riding groups if appropriate.
