“We spent a delightful week in Graham and Margaret's cottage in Stanford. The cottage is beautiful and well kitted out and maintained. We were lucky to meet Graham and Maggy to exchange cars and keys etc and spent a happy couple of hours chatting to them. They took good care of our house and were extremely accommodating. The town of Stanford, where the cottage is located, is a real find and it is easy to see why they fell in love with the place. We highly recommend them for an exchange.”

About our home
A Cape Dutch style house designed and built by me (Graham) 10 years ago, it fits in beautifully with the local architecture of the village of Stanford. It has a totally private courtyard with built in braai for star gazing on summer evenings. Inside there a is a large living/dining room and kitchen with a superb open fireplace for chillier evenings. The main downstairs bedroom has queen size bed and full en suite bathroom. There is a second bedroom with double bed. Upstairs is a large loft bedroom with two single beds, two chairs that make into small child size futon beds and basin. The second full bathroom is downstairs. Furnishings are a mixture of old and new and the whole ambience is one of comfort with lots of interesting art.

As a host (1)More about us
-
We are Graham and Dampier, retired Brits who now live in Central Portugal for nine months of the year. The other three (January to March)we spend in South Africa at our second home in Stanford and also travelling around. We discovered South Africa in 1995 and fell in love with it so much we ended up building our house, a move we have never regretted.

Where is it?
Neighbourhood
Stanford is an historic Overberg village midway between the bustling centres of Hermanus and Gansbaai. Hermanus is for shopping and superb restaurants with the added attraction of being the "Whale Capital" between about August and November when the Southern right whales come into the harbour. There are other families of whales close to Stanford in Walker Bay, about 15 minutes drive. Gansbaai is still a working fishing harbour where shark cage diving is on offer for the more adventurous. Stanford itself is home to many interesting shops and restaurants which change every year we visit and extremely friendly people.
