About our home

A modern Cape Dutch thatched residence located in South Africa's premier golf and country estate Fancourt. The house is situated in a beautiful and very colourful garden of lawn and shrubs with it's own swimming pool (10 x 3.5 metres). A large terrace on the ground floor is ideal for al fresco dining or chilling out on the large outdoor sofa, while the first floor terrace is the perfect suntrap (with sunbeds). There are two large interconnecting reception rooms (one with flat screen TV and entertainment system), the other room can be used as a study (it has broadband) or as a separate playroom. The dining hall (table sits 10 comfortably) opens out onto the terrace, as does the kitchen which also has a table that comfortably sits 6. There is also a guest WC on the ground floor.

I'm afraid I'm limited as to the photos I can list as I'm not currently in South Africa. I have included the only photos I have but they don't do the house justice; the only photos I have of the bedrooms were taken to show off the quilts that I made that are on the beds! The main bedroom has a super king sized bed and is approximately 400 sg ft; it has a large open fire place and living area (with TV) that opens onto the first floor terrace; it has a walk-in wardrobe, and large bath and shower room en-suite. The second bedroom (which also opens onto the terrace) is approximately 200 sq feet, and the third bedroom (with small TV) is approximately 160 sq feet; both bedrooms with king sized beds and a bath and shower room en suite.

The main reception room has two sofas and two armchairs in front of a large open fire place (not generally needed in South Africa!) and a flat screen TV over the fire; the second reception room has a sofa and armchairs also. The kitchen has all mod cons (I was a chef in a former life!), with a separate pantry and laundry room off it. There is an enclosed outdoor area off the pantry where we BBQ (we have Weber gas and charcoal BBQs).

We have a golf buggy that we use golf for getting around the estate.

We also have a cleaner and a gardener.

More about us

  1. We are a retired couple with two grown-up kids and no pets. I am Irish and my husband is from Yorkshire. We spend 6 months of the year in South Africa usually from November to May, and the rest of the year we live in France (both houses are listed for exchange).

We are looking for a house swap in London for 2 or 3 weeks in December (or during the Christmas holidays), and either of our houses are available for a swap during this time. However, the swap doesn't have to be simultaneous if that works better for you - either of our houses are available for a swap during the time we are not there.
