About our home

Our open plan brick and tile double story home is light, sunny and warm. It is very comfortable and easy living, with all the mod-cons needed for a care-free and happy stay.
It is situated on a big stand and garden on a hill above the quaint and friendly village called Great Brak River, with lovely views on the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains and river and is close to the lagoon and white-sanded beach.
We also have a duplex three bedroom flat in Margate, on the tropical east coast near Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, with a short flight from O.R.Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg or an easy 5 hour drive by car.
This would also enable you to visit the world famous and fantastic game parks of the north and east, reachable on a short flight or easy drive by car.
There are also Game Parks and Game Farms with the "Big Five" in our area in the Garden Route for short stays or daily visits.

More about us

  1. My wife (Christi) and I (Henk) are retired professional people in the financial and economic fields with a passion for world travel. As a result we have been all over the world and have visited many beautiful and interesting places.
Of all these, Venice has always been and still is, our most favourite. We have thus visited it on several occasions in the past.
I have also taken tour groups from South Africa all over the world as Tour Leader for a few years when I had first retired.
We also love music, the arts, fine dining, wines, reading and sports.
Our main hobby is glass art, using coloured warm glass, electric kilns and doing flame working.

Where is it?

Our immediate neighbourhood on a little hill above the main street of the village is sunny, clean, open and newish in character. Residents tend to be retired or nearing retirement, making for a contented, friendly and sociable life style.
Our town Great Brak River is a beautiful, sunny little sea-side village situated between George and Mossel Bay, in the middle of the beautiful Garden Route-area, South Africa's coastal playground.
It is a landscape of tall trees in ancient forests, with a curving coastline, mountain hideaways, game farms, artist communities, modern malls, golf courses and fun-in-sun beach holidays. It is also perfect for quiet and tranquil nature excursions.
Crossing the Outeniqua Mountain Range within 10 minutes, you are in the Little Karoo semi-desert area, with it's breathtaking scenery of rocky hills, desert vegetation, sleepy towns and wineries forming part of the famous Route 62.
Flying time from Johannesburg to George is 1h50m (13 hours driving by car) with Cape Town 4 hours and Port Elizabeth 3 hours of driving.
