About our home

Our home is in the lush Midlands 1,5 hours inland from Durban and the coast. We are just outside of town (2kms) along the district road and surrounded by plantations for mountain-biking and trail-running. Our local weekly farmers is next door to our property.

  1. We're a family of 3, a 20 year old studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics, an 18 year old who is about to head to the East to travel for a year and and a mum who's a museum curator.

  2. We're a creative family. We love design and travel and different cultures and food. .

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Buzzy restaurants
Howick is a small town, with a limited selection of restaurants. The Corner Post is a popular joint.
Cool bars
There are a number of small-town pubs, trendy places are more in the city districts.
Cozy cafés
Nottingham road, a 20 minute drive away, has a collection of cute cafes and coffee shops.
Retail therapy
Pietermaritzburg has its local mall with all the usual retail shops. For a

The plantations across the road have tracks for cycling, running or walking. Umngeni Valley (1 km away) is a local reserve along the main river and is great for picnics and hikes.
Day tripping
The Midlands Meander lists all the local crafters and artisans - you could spend a day exploring the countryside along the Meanders routes. Midmar dam is good for a swim, ski or suntan. The beach and Durban are 1,5 hours away. In the opposite direction is the Drakensberg with a load of hiking and camping opportunities.
