About our home

We built this house four years ago as our retirement home after visiting this area many years as holiday makers. Our personal touch has made this a warm and comfortable place to relax and enjoy nature and the view of the river and the sea. It is a wooden frame house built on pillars. The main house has two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one en-suit) and a study. YOu have access from within the house to a flat underneath with two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. The flat can be used separately, so it can be used even while we are here. (Then we can show you around as well!)

Neighbourhood

Kenton-on-Sea is a small villiage in between two rivers: The Bushmans River and Kariega River, both very popular for fishing, swimming and skiing. Kenton-on-Sea is a 125km drive from Port Elizabeth (the closest aiport) along a beautiful scenic route.

As the name indicates - this is a village at the sea, part of the "Sunshine Coast" tourist route. This part of our country is called the "Frontier Country" - referring to the first British Settlers who settled here in 1820. Grahamstown (60km)has a variety of museums discribing the rich history of this area.

Although our house is not within a comfortable walking distance from the beach, it is only 3-5 minutes drive to get you to the sea - at least three different beaches with beautiful white sand for long distances to walk. In the town you will find everything you need for a comfortable stay: basic shopping, hairdresser, library, post office, butchers etc. We have a number of restaurants, most of them with a view of either the river or the sea.

The nearest town is Port Alfred (25 km), if you want to do more shopping or explore the surrounding areas. We are surrounded by game farms - so easy to go for a game drive. There are a number of hiking trails in the vacinity. If you like horse riding - these facilities are available as well - even horse-riding on the beach.
