Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, modern open plan kitchen and dining room opening onto under cover patio, with portable braai/barbecue. Spacious lounge and also an upstairs loft room opening onto deck with sea view. Listen to the waves crash onto the shore as you fall asleep at night.
This family home is just one block from the rocky shore, where rock pools support abundant sea life, for all to observe and enjoy. Pack your cooler box and have your evening sundowners on the rocks as the sun sets behind you. The home is less than a kilometer from the swimming beach, and within walking distance to everything the village has to offer.
The home is newly renovated, is very well equipped including washing machine, dishwasher, two fridges / freezers, microwave and dstv. It has a fenced garden and beautiful trees and shrubs.
This house called "The Coelacanth" is used as a self catering holiday home, and is not cluttered with personal items. All linen is new and the house is tiled throughout. It is a non smoking house.
We would include a car in the swap.
Kidd's beach is a small village just 20 minutes from the East London airport, and 30 minutes from the city centre on an excellent tar road. It is surrounded by coastal reserve, pineapple lands and dairy farms.
It is a popular fishing spot with locals as well as a good body boarding, surfing and swimming spot. There is a tidal pool. The shells are abundant.
Pick mussels from the rocks at spring low tide. Enjoy the wide, unspoilt sandy beach. The dunes stretch endlessly on. It is peacefull and beautiful and unspoilt.
The village has a small supply store, library, primary school, and police station, post office, tennis and bowling club. It also has a Beach tea room, restaurant and pub, where you can sit on the deck and watch the dolphins pass.
Within an hour or two's drive on good roads, we have the well known big five game reserve, Inkenkwezi http://www.inkwenkwezi.com, Hogsback and Amatola mountains, Fish River and East London Golf Courses, the historic cities of East London and Grahamstown. Also Addo Elephant National Park is about a 2,5h drive from Kidd's beach. The spectacular Trankei Wild Coast is a couple of hours drive away.
The cities of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban are a 1,5 hrs flight away
The area is rich in history and culture - Xhosa, English, German, Afrikaans and others.
Many of the residents of Kidd's Beach are involved in enriching the lives of the local disadvantaged rural communities in different ways and would be privileged to include visitors in their projects.
We are a fit couple in our early sixties, and are wanting "an adventure" before we get too old! We are hoping our children and their spouses and families will join us for a week or two during our time in Italy. We have chosen Italy, as my late father was Italian (from Trieste) and we would like to absorb the culture and learn the language. My husband, Tim is a keen cyclist, and would also like to do an Italian cooking course, and I would like to take an art course whilst in Italy. We both want to walk a lot, explore, small surrounding towns and villages , as well as visit the well known magnificent art, architecture, cities and opera. We are both involved in Water Fitness Exercise as well an interest in Rotary.
We can be away for the first six months 2013
We have three grown sons ( two married) and they will be happy to help you while you are staying in our home, as two live in Kidd's Beach and our son who lives in Cape Town will acquaint you with the delights of the Cape should you manage a visit there during your time in South Africa. I am an Art School graduate and Tim a Social Science graduate.
