Where is it?
Somerset West, Strand and Gordon’s Bay are three of the resort towns that make up this most sought after destination, known as the Helderberg. It has glorious mountain and coastal scenery as well as world class recreation, shopping and dining facilities.
Our cottage enjoys an enviable location beneath the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, with the gently flowing Lourensford River only a short stroll away. No less than three award-winning wine estates are minutes from The Rustic Olive Cottage. Guests are spoilt for choice where entertainment and dining venues are concerned, many within close proximity.
A favourite activity for guests at The Rustic Olive Cottage is to visit nearby Morgenster Estate for an olive tasting. The Lourensford Estate’s popular harvest market, operating on most weekends, is also a must-do. Vergelegen Wine Estate is popular among both locals and tourists for its wine tastings and fascinating history. Several dining options are available between the three estates – both casual and upmarket. Sophisticated palates as well as the more “picky” junior palates are catered for superbly in the vicinity.
Erinvale Golf Estate, a few minutes drive away, welcomes visitors for a round on its 18-hole Gary Player-designed golf course. If a spot of ‘pub-grub’ is to your liking then Irish-style Skelligs pub in the estate’s hotel is the place to be for a Guinness pie and the sporting match of the day.
For nature lovers the nearby Helderberg Nature Reserve displays the diversity of the Western Cape’s unique Fynbos Plant Kingdom. On a warm summer’s day it is difficult to resist a leisurely stroll or perhaps a more demanding run on one of the clearly demarcated trails. From this vantage point there are unmatched views of False Bay and the Helderberg basin.
