About our home

We carefully restored our gracious homestead in 2012 with a lot of thought and passion. The house is tastefully decorated and has all modern amenities for comfort with beautifully appointed bedrooms and living areas. Torburnlea is a luxury guest house situated in a prime location offering bucket list activities in the Lowveld as well as trips to the Kruger National Park which is home to the Big 5: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo.

Other highlights of the area include The Panorama Route (Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window and the Three Rondavels), Sudwala Caves, the oldest dolomite caves in the world, the Genesis Route in the Makhonjwa Mountains south of Barberton, Pilgrims Rest, Graskop, and the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens.

All rooms are fully serviced on a daily basis and meals including breakfast and dinners may be arranged on request for a group, should our house be exclusively booked out

Steeped in history, Torburnlea was once host to the eminent President Jan Smuts, Sir Percy Fitzpatrick, author of the classic children’s book “Jock of the Bushveld” and Harry Wolhuter, one of the first game rangers of the Kruger Park, who survived a lion attack while patrolling the reserve on horseback.

Every detail has been considered; every guest’s need attended to. With a keen interest in environmental sustainability, special attention has been given to the installation of water and energy efficient fixtures, the use of recycled and locally sourced materials. The result is an elegant yet inviting space that you may never want to leave.
