About our home

Beautiful holiday home, with the beach less than 1km away. safe and secure. This is the home we originally lived in and then we built another house on the hill overlooking the bay. The holiday home is usually occupied in December and January with tentants on a rental basis, but we can arrange a home exchange if well in advance. The area offers fishing, surfing, swimming, diving, hikes, mountain biking in the forests. Land of the "Knysna Elephant" and the famous Tsitikamma forest region. Plenty to do and the house has under floor heating for winter, but it does not really get cold here. The house is only 6 years old and very comfortable with everything you would need. George airport one hour by car. Cape Town 6 hours drive. Plettenberg Bay is on the well known "Garden Route". If you like hiking - there are various trails like the "Otter Trail". Mid year whale watching is a must. Water sports in abundance. Knysna Oyster Festival in July.

Our home is clean and spacious. No smoking is permitted indoors< I'am afraid, but you can sit outside and enjoy the view. The security complex is safe and our neighbours are helpful and fiendly. The lounge opens up with big, folding, glass doors to a beautiful little river and the bird life is exceptional; Sometimes you will hear or see the large Fish Eagles with their haunting cry. There are a pair in the vicinity. The brightly coloured kingfishers periiodically dive into the water to catch fish and frogs and are quite entertaining to watch at the end of a day whilst sitting on the large, tiled verandah where there is a comfortable table and bendches to eat at and a gas barbecure. There are light coloured plantation shutters to close during the day to keep the cool air in. The kitchen is very easy to use. The dishwasher, washing machine and sink is hidden and can e operated with ease. Very clererly designed as you do not necessary have to walk too much to the cupboards, just open the dishwasher, open the two sided cupboards and pack away. From the other side, you can access the same cupboards to take out the necessary items you would need. Unfortunately, no pets are allowed and as I have an allergy to cats, I cannot do a home exchange where there are cats.

More about us

  1. We are a semi-retired artist and Mining Engineer. We are keen on scuba diving, have our own yacht and our children are all grown up. We are keen to do lots of travelling and sailing in the future and would love to experience other cultures and open our home to you. As we live in Plettenberg Bay up on the hill overlooking the blue sea of the Bay, we would gladly assist you in any way possible, if we are in town. We do not smoke, enjoy a good glass of wine on an evening and respect other peoples homes and privacy. We have had great times touring and wish to extend that experience. Plettenberg Bay was where we used to holiday as our children grew up. In fact my husband, Douglas, holidayed here from the age of 4 years old, so this is why we came back to stay.

Where is it?

Between the mountains and the sea on the Garden Route coastline. Plettenberg Bay is a holiday resort which accommodate a great deal of visitors in the holiday season, being from September to February, each year. It can then become very busy and noisy but there is so much to do. Summer activities are offered to young and old. The night life is night clubs and discos and parties and barbecues. Beach parties and dances. The day life is sunbathing, swimming, diving and a bit of shopping and touring. The coastline is beautiful and all the beaches offer wonderful water sports (surfing, boating, skiing etc. Many tourists visit at that time. Winter time is quiet and unhurried. Lazy afternoons strolling along the beach. Sunbathing on a hot day or snorkeling . The evenings are pleasant, but cool. This is my favorite time of the year as the whales come into the bay to calf and many of them can be seen, even from the beach. Excursions go out to see them by boat every day. There is also a seal colony and a bird sanctuary to visit. Monkeyland is also a worthwhile visit, especially for the young ones.easy access to shops, all in walking distance. The people are friendly and helpful and a large range of cultures can be experienced. Game farms and the Elephant Park offer tours and excursions. Paradise is offered.
