My husband, Gareth and I have been together for 10 years and married for 4. We have a son called Jamie who is 10 months old. We love living in Hout Bay, Cape Town but also enjoy travelling and exploring the world.
As Gareth is in IT he is able to work remotely and we want to take advantage of this opportunity whilst Jamie is small.
I worked as a food product developer for a retailer before having Jamie. Our kitchen is fully equipped as both Gareth and I enjoy cooking and our favourite thing about traveling is getting to try new foods!
The valley of Hout Bay is about 25 minutes drive from Cape Town city centre along the beautiful Victoria drive. Hout Bay (meaning Wood Bay) is a fishing village with a small working harbour.l From our home it is a 10 minute walk to reach Chapmans peak scenic drive (in the top 10 things to do in Cape Town on Tripadvisor). A walk along here in the morning is a great way to start the day or take some drinks along and watch the sun go down from one of the many picnic spots. The beautiful Constantia wine route is a 10 minute drive away and the Bay Harbour market which is open on weekends is a favourite with both locals and tourists.
Getting around
Our home is positioned on a leafy road on the side of the mountain out of the Hout Bay town centre but it is just a short stroll downhill (about 7 minutes) to the MyCiti bus stop. The bus can take you into Cape Town city centre via Camps bay along arguably one of the most scenic drives in the world (Victoria drive). Uber taxis are readily available and are usually at the house within 5-10 minutes of being ordered. The local supermarkets are just down the road (10 minute walk) and include Woolworths, Pick n Pay and Checkers and a pharmacy as well as several restaurants and coffee shops. To get to the beach is a 15 - 20 minute stroll and there is a lovely short hike to a small waterfall at the top of our road (the stream flows past the bottom of our garden). The easiest way to get around Cape Town is however to rent a car as this gives you the flexibility to explore anywhere from the winelands to the beaches and beyond.
