About our home

Cozy two bedroom house with study and attractive sunny garden in a green suburb of Stellenbosch, 50 km from Cape Town. Easy living and charlady once a week included. Parking on the property behind safe fence with automatic gate. Alarm system in the house. If possible, car swop included, we drive a Honda Civic.

We are looking for a home swap in the center of the Netherlands where we will be based during the months of June, July and August of 2017, in order to visit relatives and friends.

More about us

  1. We are a retired couple, have three children in South Africa and the Netherlands and we have five grandchildren

  2. Christien does nursing part-time. Kees does anthropological research which basically means writing up previous work and making presentations at conferences.

  3. We love nature, reading and traveling. Kees recently discovered the pleasures of gardening and maintaining our place.

Where is it?

Buzzy restaurants
Stellenbosch is full of good restaurants and close to world-class culinary centres Franschhoek and Cape Town. Furthermore the district contains a large concentration of exquisite wine farms with excellent wine tasting and fine restaurants.
Cool bars
Too many to mention, many of them patronised by students and tourists.
Retail therapy
1000 meter walking takes one to a great neighbourhood shopping centre: Die Boord, where there is safe parking and several good shops, including a great Spar, pharmacy, post office, bank, etc.
Bit of culture
Stellenbosch and its environment is justly well-known for the many art galleries, musical and theater events and other attractions that are ongoing throughout the year. Furthermore, Cape Town offers so much in terms of museums, music for all tastes and great historical sites to visit.
Walks in the park
200 meter from our house is a park where one can walk and where small children play. The suburb is excellent for peaceful walking, as is the town. Two kilometers from our house is a very nice walking area, namely the foothills of Stellenbosch Mountain, including the University agricultural farm and forested area. From there one can walk for long distances on contour paths that are easy to access, or for the more adventurous, it is possible to climb the mountain, provided one is well-prepared for changes in the weather and carrying enough water.
Spot of exercise
In town there is a state of the art sport gymnasium, including an indoor swimming pool.
Day tripping
From Stellenbosch excellent opportunities exist for trips to Cape Town, including the famous Robben Island, but also drives along the coast to Hermanus or to the West Coast. It is also easy to visit other towns and attractions from here, e.g. Paarl with its historical center and language monument, or Cape Point Nature Reserve, Table Mountain, etc. The possibilities are endless.
