About our home

Our 600 sq m home is spacious and airy, and extremely comfortable.

The main bedrooms are upstairs and have lovely character. There is a huge air conditioned main bedroom en suite with king bed and a bathroom and shower etc., plus a large study and TV lounge. We do have broadband internet (wi-fi) available. The second bedroom upstairs has a King bed and shower bathroom. There is a second study area in an enclosed upper deck.

Downstairs is a breezeway leading to two en suite bedrooms (One with king bed and one with two singles), and an additional guest bathroom. This overlooks the swimming pool. The living area is large and opens on one side onto the pool area and on the other onto a spacious covered deck. There is a built in gas barbecue on the deck, which overlooks the river. There is also a gas Weber barbecue.

There are golf clubs available for you to use if required. Birders will enjoy our bird restaurant on the deck, where we entertain many lovely birds, from sunbirds to purple crested loeries, barbets, babblers and more.

More about us

  1. We are a professional couple who are empty-nesters. We love to travel and since we have a daughter in the UK and a son in Houston, Tx, we enjoy visiting them and using these visits to travel in the British Isles and Europe, as well as in the United States. We have done ten exchanges thus far, in France, England and Scotland, Colorado Springs and Whidby Island. These have been very successful and we have made wonderful long term friends through home exchange.

We have experienced other homes, lifestyles and countries in a way that would not be possible by staing in hotels or commercial accommodation. We are still running our own business, but are able to get away reasonably often. We are flexible as to dates, because of having two homes. We will probably only be two people at a time but I have nominated a party of 4 - just in case our son and daughter-in-law (aged 34 and 32) or our daughter (32) can find time to join us.

  2. Russell is an engineer with Master of Business degree, and Chairman of an engineering company. He loves history, especially military history, cars and rugby.
Barbara is a retired Financial Director whose hobby is sketching and travel and also wildlife and birding (in an amateur sort of way!).

  3. We enjoy history, learning new cultures, exploring nature, and meeting people.

Where is it?

We are in Mpumalanga, the friendly, beautiful province! This is our second home and we love it. It is on a secure golf estate in a most beautiful and exciting part of our country. My (adult) children call it "Pleasantville" as everyone is so friendly, but then most South Africans are very hospitable anyway. We are about 30 minutes drive from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. One can fly in via Johannesburg or Cape Town. We are about 30 minutes from Kruger National Park and close to many private game lodges. There are wonderful scenic drives, and many things to do in the area. The climate is mild in winter and pleasantly hot in summer.

Our location is out of the malaria area, being up the escarpment a bit and above the Lowveld proper. There are world class restaurants close by - excellent cuisine at lower than European and American prices. There is also good shopping and the area is known as a haven for artists.

Besides the many game viewing opportunities and golf, there are wonderfully scenic and historic drives and the area is a photographer's dream.
