About our home

Sunny, north-facing self-contained apartment adjoining and with views over The Lakes National Park on the Garden Route of Southern Africa. The flat is open plan with kitchenette, sitting area and large single or twin bed. Designed by an environmentalist all finishes are "natural" with brick floors, wood and glass. There is a Queen Anne wood-burning stove for cosy winter evenings and is cool in summer because of large, shady trees. It is quiet and private with its own entrance and off-road parking and you can see the strats at night !

More about us

  1. My name is Chris. I am a middle-aged, semi-retired environmental consultant and formerly a professional nature conservationist. My wife of 6 years, Annette, cared for my diseased wife --- I married the nurse! We are both keen on travelling, but enjoy our home and its natural surroundings. We have two dogs, a scotty and a miniature Dobermann, but they go a friendly doggy's hotel when we are away.
We have a koi pond below raised deck and are very attached to our 15 year+ fish.

Neighbourhood

The main residence and apartment are situated against a hill-side in the front row of a largely still natural suburb on the N2 National Road mid-way between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. There are uninterrupted views of lakes, grassy floodplain and green mountains.
Although it is quiet and private, there are good restaurants and convenience shopping nearby as well as many active recreational activities, such as hiking, water sports, hang-gliding and cycling. (There is a hang-gliding "school" next door.)
Called the "Garden Route" because of the natural forests nearby is one of the coolest areas of SA in summer, but mildest in winter.
Wilderness is a good base for exploring the interior and within an easy drive of the Cango Caves, Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital and Knysna, the spectacularly scenic coastal village.
