We renovated this flat into a loft 3 years ago and it was done in ecologically. The flooring is made of eco-cement (wood powder and nuts shells) it's nice and cool in the summer. All the wood used is from Sustainable Forestry. The insulation is all cork. The bedroom is a tatami room all made of natural materials. Our son sleeps with us in the tatami room in his crib. There are large fans on the ceilings of the livingroom and bedroom which we have found sufficient to keep the loft cool in the summer. The flat has cross ventilation as well. The is an open kitchen onto the livingroom which is great! The island kitchen is made of stainless steel and wood. The bathroom flooring and counter are all made of wood and the shower is a rain shower which is fantastic. The water drains automatically as the floor is slightly angled.
There is ample closet space. The flat is located at the second floor (which is like the 3rd floor in Canada) and there is no elevator. So it's good exercise.
There is a dishwasher in the kitchen. A washing machine in one of the hallway closets. We don't have a dryer as it is so sunny here we just hang our laundry to dry on some special tension cables out the livingroom windows. Everything will be dry within 1-2 hours. It's what everyone does around here as we take advantage of the sun.
The loft has great views both from the bedroom and the livingroom.
This loft is located in Poble Nou which is like the old industrial neighborhood of Barcelona. It is very quiet and everybody is chill. There is a supermarket one block away in the Icaria shopping center.
The loft is located just one block from the beach and that is truly fabulous! On the beach you can access windsurfing, surfing instructors and there are little cafes on the beach where you can have drinks all day and night. Nest to the beach is also the port in case you would like to rent a sailboat. You can also rent bikes just around the corner on Doctor Trueta street.
To go to the center of Barcelona, you either walk (20 minutes), take a taxi (5 minutes and 4 euros) or take the bus at the corner (Avenida Icaria with Alaba) bus 41 or 14, will take you to the center in 10 minutes.
There are 2 restaurants downstairs on the same street as the loft.
Everyone in the building are owners very quiet and respectful. Mostly families.
