About our home

My home is in a quiet classical building at the heart of the Eixample, in a very central but still a residential part of the town, dotted with gorgeous architecture.

The shopping streets of Passeig de Gracia, Rambla de Catalunya (note: not the same as Ramblas!) and Diagonal are nearby - and actually most areas of the town are within walking distance, though the area is also well-connected with public transport.

The 'barrio' of Eixample Izquierda is a beautiful and safe area to stroll around in, shop at the local organic and traditional food markets, enjoy the lovely terrace cafes and wine bars, and visit the plentiful high-end restaurants and bars.

My home is comfortably decorated with a calm scandinavian sensibility, it has the typical long hallway with one double bedroom, and a second large bedroom with a fold out bed that doubles as my office. A light and airy living room-dining room, a small bathroom (only downside) and a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, coffee-maker (Nespresso pod), microwave. The flat has no tv, but the fast fibre-optic broadband will cover you on the rare occasion there happens to be a rainy day!

I love living in the area and I can give great recommendations what to do and where to go during your stay.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Lovely area popular with more local Catalans and less tourists than downtown, and there are a lot of services such as cafes, restaurants, fruit stalls and wine and eco shops. And as a cherry on the cake the recently refurbished Market Ninot that is a culinary heaven. The leafy and tranquil streets invite explorers during the day, and are full of experiences in the evening - a drink on a terrace, a casual or fine dining evening, or a cinema on the rare occasion it rains, are all within a few blocks. Public transport is quick. you are in the centre in 10 minutes, and a taxi to the centre of the town is 5 mins and 5 eur approx.

Buzzy restaurants
The choice is amazingly versatile and international in the area: just downstairs a great Caribbean food at Macondo, top notch Peruvian at Totora, Michelin-star dining at Gaig - and possibly the best tapas in Barcelona at Paco Meralgo, and less buzzy but still great indian food at Sindur right opposite. New top end restaurants open all the time in the area!
Cool bars
Plenty to choose from, I personally like El Velodromo, San Telmo, Bardot and Cu-Cut, all within 2-3 blocks from the flat.
Cozy cafés
I would recommend for example: huge donuts in variety of flavours at Travel and Cake; working space with good coffee at SandwiChez; afternoon green tea at the tranquil Akashi Gallery.
Retail therapy
El Corte Ingles, shops along Diagonal, Passeig de Gracia and Rambla de Catalunya. Though best little design & fashion shops are in Gracia on Calle Bonavista, in Raval on Joaquin Costa or most everywhere in Borne.
Bit of culture
All around the year Barcelona hosts plenty of concerts and events!
Walks in the park
Turó parc is the closest, great oasis for a stroll, and a glass of vermut in the hidden cafe in the middle.
Spot of exercise
Av Diagonal is a great location for going on a run, or you can run down to the seaside (about 5km one way). Around the corner a gym with a pool that offers visitors rates too.
Day tripping
Plenty to see at the Montsant and Priorat wine regions, or the Montserrat!
