Where is it?

Neighbourhood

The Poble Sec neighbourhood is part of the Sants-Montjuïc district, situated at the foot of Montjuïc. It's a very attractive area that combines the peacefulness of Montjuïc's large green spaces with the proximity of Barcelona's lively centre in less than 15 minutes. It has become very fashionable over the last few years and on Calle Blai you can find tapas bars and resturants with something for everyone.
The event halls and the Palau de Congressos near Plaça España also make the Paral.lel / Poble Sec area perfect for those in Barcelona on business. Although both Plaça España and Montjuïc have a lot to offer tourists as well.
Facilities-wise because the area is residential there is a good range of amenities from pharmacies to supermarkets.
Also near Poble Sec/ Paral.lel is the remodelled Mercat Sant Antoni which is a large indoor market selling primarily tasty, fresh food products. It is a good place to have a wander and overload your senses.

Buzzy restaurants
Xemei Xemei is located in Poble Sec, at the foot of Montjuïc near the Teatre Grec. The restaurant was started by two Venetian twins, Stefano and Max Colombo after discovering a lack of good Italian restaurants in Barcelona. Quimet & Quimet Opened in 1914 and located off the standard tourist track in the heart of El Poble Sec, Quimet & Quimet offers superb tapas and montaditos (small open faced sandwitches). The family run bar is staffed by several generations of Quimets.
Cool bars
Many of Barcelona’s best bars can be found in Poble Sec. Whether you searching for live music and cabaret over a drink, or just a beautiful venue at which to relax and unwind, there is something for everyone.
Cozy cafés
Located in Carrer Blai, Koska Taverna is a small basque bar with a great atmosphere and fantastic service. The pinchos and tapas come highly recommended: from stuffed squid to beef cooked in red wine through to chorizo in cider, every menu item is imaginative and worth trying.
Retail therapy
Close to Poble Sec you can find Las Arenas shopping mall. Las Arenas de Barcelona is a commercial shopping complex located in Plaça España. The structure was first used as a bullfighting arena but was reconstructed and designed into a commercial centre in March 2011 by Richard Rogers. Arenas de Barcelona is now a shopping, sports and music centre with a 360 rooftop view of the city.
Bit of culture
The Grec garden and its outdoor amphitheater are a great place to read in the sun, while a stroll up the water-bordered Escaleras del Generalife will lead you straight to the Joan Miró Foundation – home to the largest collection of work by the artist in the world.
Walks in the park
Montjuïc is one of Barcelona's green lungs and best vantage points. This little world of history, gardens, museums, cultural centres and Olympic facilities makes it unique. The imposing hill it occupies from the Sants neighbourhood looks towards the port and offers you an impressive city landscape.
Spot of exercise
Lots of locals enjoying walking and jogging in nearby Montjuic.
Day tripping
If you are looking for a day trip away from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona, look no further than Sitges. Less than an hour on the train from Renfe station Sants, Sitges is a beautiful, quiet seaside town, which comes alive in summer. It also has its own film festival.
